Yesterday I played another gig - this time in duo format.

Basically, in short, it went well - and it was an interesting experience

Ok the story:
My brother and I had gotten the gig at a pub in the country side. A 3 hour drive from where we live. I think 'red neck' country is an apropriate comparision (no offence meant though). It was a pub at a local beer brewery, located in an old barn. They had full PA and equipment so I just brought an accoustic and an electric guitar and some harmonicas. The place was packed with people in all ages.

We have been a little in a hurry lately and the practcing we have done has mainly been for the band gig we held last friday. But we had managed to come up with 14 songs we meant we could do.

Well we set up the equipment and noticed we we standing in front of a fire escape door. Suddenly the scene from Blues Brothers hit me - the one where they are pretending to be the good ol'e boys and the only thing that rescues the situation is the theme song from Rawhide. I was thinking - we hadn't really planned for the audience. You don't play jazz or pop in red neck country do you??? We were joking about having to make a sudden escape

Anyway - we started with John Wesley Harding again, and it was well received. We played on, Lodi was very welcome. We sneaked in 4 of my originals too, two of them being a bit jazzish. The crowd was applauding politely. Nobody threw beer at us :D And all songs worked pretty well in a duo format too (... harmonica solo on Something  )

Ok after we were finished the next band entered stage, and the crowd got was they were waiting for - Accordion, violin, Mandolin etc. You get the drift :)

Actually, they played well and they played a lot of songs - I was positively surprised when they did Dylan's Oh sister. Eventually I ran up and did some vocal harmonies on a few songs (we had free beer all night  ). And I joined in on el-guitar on 'Jackson'. They were happy with that :D

All in all a very pleasant night!!!

Sounds like a lot of fun. Hopefully you can go back.

Did you talk to the main act about opening for them again?

Yes I think will we come back probably with the full band.
We got along well with them - the violinist is the owner of the place. And we invited them to our 2009 'Garage Roof Festival' - currently we have 4 bands booked :D

I can relate to that myself. When I was in High school (back in the early 70's) We played VFW's, Elks and rotary clubs. This was about 30-40 miles South east of Chicago so we had to learn some County AND western, you know....both kind of music  Not to mention a Polka or two :note2: I don't remember playing any places with chicken wire though
