Oh my, it seems that one of the main storage facilities used by many Nashville musicians and production companies was flooded with up to 8-feet of water. Some of the guitars were unique and/or had sentimental value.

One of my friends, who's Brad Paisley's guitar tech, thanked friends today for lending guitars and amps. It's really hit everyone hard down there.

A couple guys on a bass forum I frequent lost some equipment, some of it very nice vintage stuff. One guy lost his cabinet along with his house and a rep from Genz Benz came on there and told him they would give him a new one.

I luckily didn't lose anything, just spent a worried night waiting for my son to get home from prom. I'm up a little higher than Nashville and we just had standing water in our back yard and some road closures due to creeks overflowing. I'm very proud of my city for how everyone has handled this disaster. The local stations were 24/7 news all weekend of course and they had story after story of neighbors and complete strangers using their own boats to rescue people. I love this city and can't imagine living anywhere else.

Very informative link. The news doesn't really make it up here in any detail. That was horrible, unthinkable!

Anderson Cooper is talking to Brad Paisley now, and already had Vince Gill on his show. The artists themselves are okay.

Another great link. Bad news primarily, but at least it is news. Gruhn's is good. Thanks for the information for everyone.

Brad Paisley (awesome guitarist) had most of his gear destroyed. he was on the news showing an acoustic thta was submerged. all the glue had loosened and the back was hanging off the sides. his teles had water mark lines.
his gear was in a warehouse being prepped for a new tour. ironically it was to be called 'H20'.
he has the monet to replace everything. sure is sad seeing a wrecked guitar.

I was watching a Youtube Video of the flood damage to the Grand ol Oprey Hotel. It was kind of strange to see all that water. We have stayed there a few times over the years ( I lived in Paducah Ky. back in the 80's and 90's).

For any of you in the Nashville area, my band will be playing a benefit show on May 28th at The Pond in Franklin. The Creeping Cruds, Spookhand (my band), Radio Death Wave and another 1 or 2 yet to be decided. All proceeds will go to the American Red Cross of Williamson County.

We haven't worked out the details yet, but we hope to have some t-shirts and CDs with sales going to charity also. If I can get a get a good recording of the show, we'll release it and accept donations for it.

Way to go jw good luck with the show.

I really haven't heard alot about how bad the flooding effected the regular people it seems the media focuses on the country music artists and their losses but to be honest they are the last ones I feel sorry for.

For one they probably didn't pay for most of the equipment they have and unless they are extremely stupid all their gear should have been covered by insurance so I'm not spilling an tears for them.

But there may be a good side to this less guitars in Nashville = less annoying country music now let's see a flood of NYC and and a loss of hundreds of turntables...hmm

cnev,

The effect on regular people has been heartbreaking. Most of the flooding happened in areas that never flood, so most people had no flood insurance. 4 people that work for my company had varying degrees of loss, one guy's house was under water up to the gutters for 3 days. Basically, he has to gut the entire house and he lost all his belongings. A lady at work's house didn't flood, but her foundation moved almost a foot. They put in some I-beams, but they can't fix the problem for at least 3 months when it dries enough.

I'm 37 years old and lived here my entire life and I've never seen anything like this. I drove through the area around where I grew up and could see where the water line was by the mud in the trees. It was 15 feet high at some points.

The media is focusing on the country artists' instruments, but a big part of those instruments lost belonged to the working musicians. They are the guys that are just earning a living playing on the road or the studio.

I count myself very lucky. The only damage we had was at the house we are remodeling. We are at the very end of the project and the sun room roof leaked and ruined a 5x5 section of the new hardwood floor.

jw,

Yea those are the people I feel sorry for I can't imagine having that happen to someone. It's just incredible to me how I really have heard nothing about this in the media. Almost all the stories have centered around country artists and their losses.

You know I think Brad paisley is a good player and seems like a nice guy but I really don't feel sorry that he might have lost his guitars, that's doesn't even compare to what you've described of all the regular people that have lost everything they've worked all their lives for...that's the trajedy.

The New York Times published an article on why we heard little about this, or the devastating tornadoes, and indeed surprisingly little about the Gulf oil well blowout at the same time. The top news people were all off celebrating their own celebrity at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, with news crews covering the news crews while the big stories went by largely unreported. (The article was headlined "They Don't Report, So You Don't Have To Decide.")
