"Oasis, the Killers, and Kaiser Chiefs are to cover songs from the Beatles' Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band to mark the 40th anniversary of the classic album's release."
Could be interesting to hear. 8)

Been done before, hasn't it? Aerosmith? Frampton? Bee Gees? Anyone remember that particular debacle?

Sadly, yes.

Oh, I had completely, (maybe mercifully!), forgotten about that! I've heard Oasis do some pretty good Beatles covers, so maybe it won't be so bad after all... :|

Yes this would make interesting listening, but as Vic said: beware the pitfalls of the Bee Gees efforts. OMG Vic I remember going to see that film. I'd almost forgotten it. I don't think it did the career of brothers Gibb much good either.
I think I'd like to see the original album repackaged as a 40th anniversary issue with maybe some bonus tracks of stuff that didn't make it to the album but not stuff (that is already in the anthology series) and loads of informative sleeve notes.
Sorry I'm going to have a rant here!!
So far EMI have done a pretty poor job here in the UK with the re-issue of Beatles original albums on CD during the 1980's, they are very basically packaged and use poor quality repro's of the original album photography and little or no sleeve notes. Worst of all they still charge an un-believable £15 - £16 for them unless you see them in a sale when they tend to get down to about £10. They could again put in little booklets explaining the history about the recording sessions etc.
They have only repackaged "The White Album" as 30th anniversary CD replica of the vinyl album which I have and is pretty good.
Thinking about it virtually every album the Beatles did was a landmark musically at the time. Sorry EMI but you could do better.
Don't get me onto the "Love" album. You shouldn't mess with songs that are good already!
I'd better stop now or I could upset someone.

The guitar is all right John but you'll never make a living out of it! (John Lennon's Aunt Mimi)
Could it be as good as Big Daddy's version?
The Buddy Holly style Day in the Life is pretty good IMO
