Got your back John and your prayers!
Hello
Shaun is doing remarkably well. He has been discharged from the ICU
and now on a regular pediatric ward. He had the trach and IV removed
and is communicating through thumbs up and down and writing on
a dry erase board. He gets very frustrated at times but is trying hard to
tell us what he needs. The best moments for me were when he greeted me with a wave and gave a big high five as a goodbye when I visited last night. It's amazing how little things can make a Grandpa so happy.
He still has a lot of recovery ahead of him but he is doing much better than we expected at this point. He was even playing games on PlayStation
last night.
They are trying to get him lined up with Physical and Occupational rehab ASAP. Anybody who knows anything about this subject
knows the longer they wait the longer the road back will be.
This has caused some tension between some of the so called "adults"
about what is proper care and where it should take place but his Mother
is taking a firm stand that the deciding factor will be what best for Shaun.
She has strength she doesn't even know about yet and we are so proud
of her
I know I've said it before but Thank You All for all your support
John
That's fantastic John. Mom is right. Gotta find the right therapist for him that not only does the right job but makes him comfortable and makes him enjoy it. Well as much as you can enjoy physical therapy.
I think there is a song coming on:Little [G]Shaun was a [Em}mighty big man
[A]Didn't care if it was [D]a car or a van
[G]He'll kick this problem right in the can
[A]Yeah, little Shaun is a [D]mighty big man.
That's as far as I can take it so a real song writer will have to take over from here.
Great news indeed. Sounds like Shaun gets his strength from mom.

Thank YOU, for keeping us updated!
I'm really glad to hear things are going better than expected. He sounds like a strong little man.
I continue to wish you and your family the best of luck.
It's tough when you know you can't reach in there and fix it yourself. I've been there myself with my oldest when he was just one (now 7) and you can't help but to hurt inside because you know you can't doing anything other than stand by there bed side.
Hang in there, John!
GO Shaun! ANd Go mom. Glad things are lookin up.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming -- "WOW--What a Ride!"
Terrific news!
I like the song, too.
"A cheerful heart is good medicine."
That's great news! We'll continue to keep all of you guys in our thoughts on the long road to recovery. If there's anything that I can do (sending a couple of PS games for him comes to mind, but I dont know what he likes), let me know. I have several extra games that neither me or my girl play anymore, and if he's laid up, it'll get boring after a while.
Our songs also have the standard pop format: Verse, chorus, verse, chorus, solo, bad solo. All in all, I think we sound like The Knack and the Bay City Rollers being molested by Black Flag and Black Sabbath.

great news
still praying for him and your family thoughts are with you
hilch
Here is to you as good as you are
And here is to me as bad as I am
As good as you are and as bad as I am
I'm as good as you are as bad as I am
Wonderful news!
#4491....
Good news. PT and OT will do wonders too. Playstation -- now there's a sign of a kid who's feeling better!
Well we all shine on--like the moon and the stars and the sun.

John,
Really happy to hear Shaun is doing so well. Take care! G.
Even Better News,
My wife came in from Albany last night just as I pushed the
submit button with more news.
Shaun has some surgery this morning and then is off to Rehab
First he will going to Sunnyview in Schenectady NY and then to
Spaulding in Boston MA next week.
Spaulding is everybody's first choice
even though it puts him about 3 hours away but they come
highly recommended.
This was the area of concern that some of the so called "adults"
were in contention about .
It seems some thought it was a better idea to wait the week
and go directly to Spaulding.
I'm glad it worked out this way and believe it is the right decision
for Shaun's care.
Thanks Again
John
Excellent news indeed.....
Seems like he's turned the corner, now it's down to hard work, determination and guts....and if he takes after his mum, sounds like his recovery will be sooner rather than later .....
Still keeping fingers crossed and still touching wood....see, a guitar has more than one use....
All my best to Shaun and his family, as always.....
Vic.
