I've seen several times lately a post from a newbie stating 'oh really' and posting some links - haven't seen it earlier, maybe I haven't been paying attention.
Do these spammers actually enter sites to register as a member only to post one post, and then come back a few days later to register again?? Get a life! Or is it possible the make a program that register members automagically - could it be stopped if upon registration, one is required to type in some alternating characters shown?

Yep, they're bots (unless the spammer is really stupid). The typing of characters you refer to is called CAPTCHA, and I'm fairly sure you can get hacks for phpBB (this forum software) to install it without much hassle...
Is online bot valium better than the regular over-the-counter stuff ???

We get a lot of bot accounts created but they usually can't post because they don't ever respond to the security questions and don't get activated. That and as soon as I see them I change the password.
They're usually found, quite quickly, by one mod or another and deleted, along with the account.
I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
