Now it's Christmas time! 8) :note2: :note1: :note1:

Dan

NO IT ISN'T!

It's almost three weeks away yet - although we're already getting deluged with carol singers. Got nothing against them, told them to come back at Christmas....a couple of days before at the earliest. Seems it's becoming nothing but a competition - who can have the lights up earliest, who can have the most lights, who can spend the most, who can drink the most blah blah blah and I for one am heartily sick of it. I feel like going to bed on the 23rd and telling the world "wake me up on January 2nd when it's all over."

That won't stop me wishing you all have a good one - but for pity's sake, just ignore the rampant commercialisation and the advertising pressure!

Maybe I'm due a visit from Marley's ghost - if that's the case, I hope Bob brings his guitar along!

:D :D :D

Vic?
You turned away carollers?
I would have thought you would have grabbed your guitar and accompanied them.
Kinda rocked their Christmas songs.

How are carol singers a sign of commercialization?

Hmmm, any relation?

to my mother-in-law? . . . yes, I see a strong resemblance . . .
I think it's the attitude.

I'm with you on this one Vic ol' pal. Tis NOT the season to be jolly. Over 500k people lost their jobs last month. I'm not feeling very joly.

If these lights were festooned across the top of the GN site at any other time of the year...they'd be politically correct. But NOW??? December???

Oh, the shame!

Awww, so what...

Merry Christmas everyone!

How are carol singers a sign of commercialization?

When said singers couldn't carry a tune in a bucket, when none of them know the words - but still want money - now that's commercialism. Or greed.

And when they're this early.....2/3 days before Xmas day, I'll be quite happy to listen to a couple and bung a few bob their way....but like I said, it's getting earlier every year. Carol singers in November and the first week of December? That's just WRONG!

Wow, your carolers want money?? I always just give mine candy canes or something and those people are usually just from a church and don't want anything anyway.

I agree though. Christmas in general now seems to be all about how much you can get and giving the right gifts to people so you look good. You should see the christmas lists of the teens I know. Every item on them is at least $100.00 and they get every single thing they ask for.
I'm going with the wise men plan. Since Jesus got 3 gifts (gold, frankenscence and myrrh) my daughter is getting 3 gifts. I refuse to let other people or the media or the retail industry ruin my Christmas spirit. If I do that, they win.

By the way, thanks for the lights, GN.

All my life I wanted to be somebody. Now I see I should have been more specific.

I've lived in Miami for more than 30 years . . . I've never had carolers.
I think I would faint if they appeared at my door.
It would be like being visited by a leprechaun. They don't exist in Miami . . . carolers.

The last time I saw carolers was when I was doing the caroling with my church youth choir.
Now when I use the words 'my youth', you know it was a long, long time ago.

I guess that's another reason to live in Miami . . . that and hurricanes. It's the price for paradise.

A message NOT brought to you by The Miami Tourism Board,
Happy Holidays y'all,

All of the money that I had originally planned to spend on my ungrateful relatives has now been donated to the Weatherford Pythian Home for Children. Those kids deserve a good Christmas, and I know that they will be grateful for whatever they get. These kids are not adoptable, but they have parents that are either in jail or prison, who are drug or alcohol addicted, abusive or just unable to care for their kids, but who are not willing to let them be adopted. They are innocents. I think I am going to make this a yearly thing. They deserve it.

Good for you Elecktrablue!
I'm doing something similar. I run a youth hockey organization that has 75 families involved. We have collected food for a local homeless shelter. I work with the person who leads the committee there. In addition to the food, this spring we are holding a Skills Competition. All of the children in my organization will compete on the ice in many different events. We are inviting all of the people from the homeless shelter to come watch, eat and enjoy themselves.

We are also collecting our used hockey sticks and nets and will be traveling to the shelter to play a little street hockey with the 15 children that live there. We will, of course, give this equipment to the kids so they can enjoy it afterwards.

The lights look cool. Maybe their design can be changed a bit. 8)
