It seems like everyones got an opinion on this so lets hear it. Which kind of guitar do you prefer? An acoustic, a solidbody, or a semibody. Whichever you choose why do you prefer that type? What virtues do you feel set it apart from the other two kinds :?:

wherever you go, there you are.

I actually have 2 preferrences depending on Genre.

Accoustic for gypsy jazz -- but specific accoustics, namely, Selmer-Maccaferri style guitars.

They are simply only guitar that will give the tone that is characteristic of this style of music.

For straight jazz, I preferre archtops. Again, because they give the tone characteristic of the style I play.

i much prefer the acoustic. more natural sounding, nice and woody, no effects, no amp to color the tone.

and it's totally portable. a good acoustic just sounds so great. nothing beats a dreadnaught. nice loud booming bass. gah i love it

I voted solid although I must confess to trying out 7 different semi's on friday as I have had a yearning to own one, I then put a deposit on an Epiphone 335 in Natural flame Maple on Saturday. She's a beautiful guitar. I will post a pic when I have her home

Be excellent to each other & party on dudes!

wouldnt a classical fall under acoustic?

Each guitar type has its place. I enjoy playing solid bodies. But, ya cant bring one on your next camping or fishing trip...

there used to be a guy that skated around venice beach in so cal with a guitar and a battery powered pignose strapped to his back

i ran into him at several grateful dead shows, he was a pretty kewl guy.

i guess if you put your mind to it you can take them anywhere

btw why isn't there an "all of the above"?

b/c it would make the poll a little bit to one sided.

I prefer solidbody's myself, I just love the sound and the feel. :)

IMHO , every guitar is suited to its occasion. You can't do a john denver with distortion on a solid body , what you actually need is an acoustic simply.

If you want to sound like beatles , you need a semi-hollowbody like casino (called an archtop guitar)

So how does favourite comes into ?

I believe that rather then the guitar , its actually the music style which you like *best* :)

I think favourite comes into play a lot. Especially today with the amps, modelers, mixers and pedals that are out there. You can make a guitar sound like an acoustic easily. You can even make your guitar sound like vowels, like someone is going "eye, eye, eye."

There is the creative side to it to. You could take a song that's played on an electric and make an unplugged version of it. Artists do this quite a bit. Going the other way, you could take an acoustic song to the electric and experiment with it. Change the tempo, experiment with effects, whammy bars etc. Who knows, you might give the song a whole other feel to it.

I've always loved the look of a hollow body (I hate semi-hollow bodies for some reason), but I've never played one so I can't say whether or not it's my favorite. I think my vote goes for an acoustic though, which is odd because i'm predominantly an electric player, I just think it has a different dynamic, feel and tone.

The guitar you play is completely a matter of choice, it is YOUR HANDS that determine what it sounds like. Clapton did Beatles songs as well or better guitar wise that the beatles with a STRAT not a casino. BB King plays some of the sweetest notes you ever heard on a 335 Clapton used the SAME guitar to acheive the thick fuzz drenched sound of Cream. Ottmar Liebert Plays Neuvo Flamenco on a Telecaster, Neil Young and John Mellencamp ROCK OUT on acoustics. It's NOT the guitar it's the player, the guitar he plays is just the tool he is most comfortable with

Immature? Of course I'm immature Einstein, I'm 50 and in a Rock and ROll band.
