Hi all,

I've come to realise that I seem to enjoy playing "Hot Air Guitar" almost as much as real guitar. This is a worry. :?

What I call "Hot Air Guitar" is a sort of version of Air Guitar, but instead of standing there flailing away at thin air, you simply talk about guitar. You have this irresistible urge to come to music forums and waffle away about anything even slightly guitar related. You slink into music shops and natter away until the sales people's eye's glaze over. At least they would if it wasn't for the fact that they usually have an even worse case than you have, and will hardly give you enough conversational room to allow you to explain to them exactly how you would go about re-adjusting the action on that demo model....

You develop a tendency to check out people's left hands for calluses when you're standing in queues, just in case you can find a fresh victim for your latest theory on scale tones. You build up a repertoire of guitar related metaphors that you can work into any conversation - "Yes, I understand what you mean about the responsiveness of your Porsche under acceleration Roger - my Strat has much the same characteristics when I feel like really putting the hammer down, and ..... blah, blah, blah..."

If I'd spent all that time practising instead of typing and talking I'd be pretty darned good by now, instead of just moderately mediocre. I've tried banning myself from forums (I've succeeded with other forums for Gardening, Games, Cars, and 2 other music forums, but I just can't seem to kick the Guitarnoise habit  )

And is this really a Guitar Players Discussion or an Opinion and Polls topic? And what did you think about the Tone of it? Should I have given it more 'bite' or 'crunch'? 8)

Are you infected too? Is there a cure?

Cheers,

Chris

WARNING!

Approach this man with extreme caution. He is a known 'carrier' who has infected hundreds of innocent forum visitors with his enthusiasm for guitar. 8)

I wandered in here couple of years ago, read a few posts by Vic and the other regulars, and I haven't been able to go back to work since. Now it's just plucking and posting.......... (and trying to break the habit of ending sentences with lines of dots............... )

NO CHRIS! YOU'VE INFECTED ME!

But seriously, I can talk about music for days and days and not get tired of it. Guitar, Pink Floyd, Jimi, Classic Rock, modern music, whatever. I could go on and on.

Chris, I dare ya to go to your doctor and describe this "disease" to him. ;) Maybe he'll have a medicine for you, lol.

I love all parts of guitar, playing, practicing, talking, posting -- its all great. And, better for me than hanging around the local bar. 8)

What! Do you know how much those guys charge? It's very effective 'aversion therapy' - I daren't get sick any more, it's too expensive. A minimum consult with our local GP costs as much as 3 or 4 sets of strings. A visit to a specialist - around the cost of a small practice amp.

I can only hope that they spend it on custom made guitars, although I have a nasty suspicion that some of them use it to pay for school fees, travel and good housing. :?

True. :) I had a friend who would translate everything into the cost of beers. "What - pay $50 for a shirt! That's twelve beers!". Kind of sad. :( Whereas I tend to translate everything into musical accessories - "$500 for insurance! Geez, I could get a 12 string for that!". Much healthier.

Cheers,

Chris

I dunno....
I would pay up to, around $200.00 for a Porkpie Hat. 8)

Although, I consider those musical accessories!!!! :D

Don't get me wrong.
I like the cheap ones too.
It all depends on the style and mood of the musical feeling at the time.

Chris...
Am I almost infected????
Is there some kinda serum that can save me before it's too late????

Ken

ps
Does anybody know where I can get a Polka dot shirt in 42 long....?

It was a Louis Vuitton. Personally, no purse with anybody's name or initials all over it will ever be bought by me! Especially for $600! And, I think they're butt-ugly purses, anyway! :D

$600 FOR A PURSE!!!!????

Ummm - I think that's what we in the UK call a handbag - a purse is a ladies wallet. Even so $600 - I could buy two Squier Teles for that, and have change for a few sets of strings and a couple of picks....

If Marilyn spent £300 on a purse, she'd have nothing left to actually put in it.....

Nah, that kind of money is better spent on something that's going to give you pleasure - especially when you plug it in....

And the same thing in the UK would probably cost about £500.....going off the price of the Squier 51's, $99.99 = aprrox £50.... Squier 51 in the UK retails at approx £125, or $250......

I should have bought more guitars when I was the States......

:D :D :D

ROFLMAO! I have to agree with you, Greg! I think there are some great looking butts out there, too!

:D Yes, a purse is a handbag! But, a purse isn't a wallet ....... a wallet is a wallet! :D
