As some of you know I strongly detest 'child prodigies'. Mostly because they use to be fairly mediocre, partly because I dislike kids. Or humans in general. Anyway, I stumbled into this kid and he has my Official Seal of Approval. Check it out for your faily dosage of Humbleness.
Here's one here in Florida:

And we don't need no stinkin' prodigy to keep us humble . . .
That's what wives are for.
It's the rock that gives the stream its music . . . and the stream that gives the rock its roll.
That's one of the best covers of "Come Together" I've seen, and that kid looks like he's about 10 years old!

I am definitely humbled! :D

"Don't wanna ride no shootin' star. Just wanna play on the rhythm guitar." Emmylou Harris, "Rhythm Guitar" from "The Ballad of Sally Rose"
I too dislike the child prodigy stuff as well as the mentally ill genius stuff.
however, this kid is good. I get the sense that he understands what he is playing because there is a bit of 'feeling' behind his ability.
did you notice the length of his right hand fingernails. this kid is no amateur.

I was curious as to what the characteristics of a genius were
(wondering if mental illness was a common self conception)
so I googled it and found this.

Pretty heavy stuff.
No mention of mental illness. Then I found this:

Uh oh
It's the rock that gives the stream its music . . . and the stream that gives the rock its roll.
those a both very interesting articles.
genius= I fail because I multi task. otherwise I do ahere to almost all those principles. however, I ain't no genius.
mental illness and creativity. when the mind is circuited due to an illness,ie, manic depressive. is the person in charge? or the illness? take Daniel Jonhston....I can't stand his music. some folks think he is incredibly talented. I think he is a vehicle for the thoughts in his head. he cannot control them. I think a part of Daniel is creative, but when he has his episodes of illness who is in charge? I don't have the answer, but somehow I have opinions.
I struggle hard in my creativity. I am not famous. I have some gifts that I am wise enough to use.
but I do not have an uncontrollable driving urge that takes over and 'art' comes out.
talent can be directed and honed. talent is innate.
truly gifted rise above the struggle most of us endure to make something.
they make it look effortless. they see and think things that most of us don't.
of course it may not be always effortless, it only seems that way.
I am still forming these feelings. so what I say is only a belief.
I saw the documentary on Daniel johnston, never heard of him before..I didn't find any of his stuff all that profound...more like a nut job that played a little guitar and happened to cry sometimes when he performed, but he got his "cred" based on other artists, expecially Kurt Cobain wearing one of his T-shirts.
"It's all about stickin it to the man!"
It's a long way to the top if you want to rock n roll!

That kid was great. I loved the way he grooved to the song.
