I have a song that triggers a memory. not the best experience in my life. I was driving in the dead of winter to visit my floks at Christmas time. I was on a desolate road running alongside a river. it was twenty below zero. I had the radio on and Holst's Planets was playing. it was a nice change.
I came around a curve and was enveloped by a wierd fog hovering around the road. it was totally wiondless and the fog was radiator steam. you know the smell? then I saw it. a truck and a car smashed head on into one another. I got out and heard screaming from the truck. freaked me right out. so I went to the car and saw the young guy mashed up against the steering wheeel post. the wheel itself was broken off. I felt his neck pulse. none.
so I checked out the truck and a little teenage girl was in there screaming her head off. drunk to the gills. I treated her for shock. by then a few cars drove up and helped out.
I was so cold standing out there. I got back into my truck when the EMTs got there. my truck had been running and the heat was a blessing. Holst was still playing.
now, everytime I hear that it brings me back there.
any happy song memories? the Zombies, "You Really Got a Hold on Me" junior high school and my first close dance with a girl. everything was perfect.
