Thanks Nuno, :)

I don't really use TAB, so that's why I've missed many of your points. I think that the one I use now has keystroke versions of most mouse functions, but I'll have to check that out, as I'm pretty comfortable with using the mouse for much of it.

I might start a separate thread on favourite computer base music programs and see what we all like to use.

Cheers,

Chris

you have to add the note in the pentagram as well.

I'm not sure we're talking about the same kind of software now.

I did kind of branch out a bit with the free/download software tangent. After all, Christmas is still 2 months away, and I want stuff NOW. :D

My family isn't cheap, though I have been known to get the dreaded "Christmas/birthday" combo present on occasion.

As for a separate thread on music software, I think that would be a great idea. If I put (commercial) software on my list, it would be nice to have lots of opinions to base my decisions on.

Staff, I mean staff. Sorry, yesterday was a long and hard day. Pentagram is Spanglish. The corrector said it was a correct word. False friends...

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I knew I'd get some good ideas here, but you've exceeded even my high expectations. 8)

You got it...

Computer based music tools

There seem to be a lot of options when it comes to general recording, editing and mixing - from free to megabucks. But many people also seem to want another program or two for specialist jobs.

Cheers,

Chris

A follow-up and a question or 2...

Christmas has come and gone, and I received a couple of items on my list, but of course not nearly enough :P

I did get an MXR Super Dyna Comp compressor. I like how it helps the sustain on the pull-offs and down-slides (which are weak and attenuate rapidly otherwise). I don't like how it causes every fretboard movement to generate noise. Just moving from open C to open Dmin causes an unwanted C to ring out when I lift off the 5th string/3rd fret. I'm getting "pull-offs" even when I really don't want them. If I turn down the sensitivity or output, I lose the sustain I want. Anyone familiar with this pedal, and know how I can overcome this problem?

The other question concerns the Line 6 Toneport UX1. This was something I really wanted and didn't get. So I'm looking into buying it myself, but now I see that it seems to have been replaced by the Line 6 Pod Farm UX1, which is much more expensive. I haven't been able to find what is "new" or "better" about the updated version, and since the Toneport UX1 is still available in some places, I'm tempted to try to grab one of those before they go out of stock. Anyone have any familiarity with the newer version and whether it has upgrades worthy of the extra $75 or so?
