Hey, I'd never heard of this guy until I watched the latest Clapton DVD "Sessions for Robert Johnson". Upon which he was playng rhythm guitar and taking the odd shared lead parts. This guy really rocks and plays left handed and it seems to me with the strings upside down as well
If any of you know his music would you give me some "must listen to" lists of his.
Apparently he is going to be performing with Cream on their 5 nights at the Albert Hall
He also plays a mean slide.

yea he does a tune and some support on the crossroads guitar festival dvd also, the boy is quite good, and i still think it's freaky the way he learned to play.

btw, if it's the same Bramhall who toured with Clapton, he is great, but he's also Doyle Bramhall II.
I think he's also on Sheryl Crow's C'mon C'mon and King's and Clapton's Riding with the King among others.

He is on "Live In The Flesh" a Roger Waters dvd, and he is amazing, astounding even, and the upside down strings is niffty.

There's actually two Doyles, I just looked it up because I was confused when the first one I found looked older than the one on Clapton's DVD. The younger one plays with Clapton, and the older one is an accomplished bluesman in his own right.

I also would love to have gone. My wife sat on the phone for four hours the days the tickets went on sale and still didnt get through. (maybe she should have had it to her ear instead). No but seriously, yeah i think they have got to produce a dvd for the hundreds of thousand fans who dont get to see them.
You can still get tickets if your willing to pay £1000 for them. Its a bloody cheek that those people who arent interested in the music can obtain tickets just to re-sell for over 900% proffit (B#:~/|#ds).
But back to the thread I have found the Doyle Bramhall 11 website and have found some music to stream so I'm gonna have a listen now.

Yeah, I would have preferred to see Andy Fairweather (Spelling) instead of Doyle at the concert I went too. But, Doyle does do this funky twitching thing with his eye when he plays, it freaked me out, but it made me laugh, and cry. He brought out all the emotions in me. I didn't notice anything phenemonal he played at the concert, but then again, who is going to when he is standing next to Eric Clapton. I have heard him do some pretty good stuff, and I only hear good things about it.

By this I hope you mean opening for Cream, because if he's going to be on stage playing with Cream then...well...it's not Cream.

Stormy

A lot of Cream's stuff was over dubbed. Clapton playing rhythm guitar, and then going over it again with lead guitar. Or they'd have a rhythm guitarist in. They can't play the same stuff without a rhythm guitarist there live. Although, knowing Jack Bruce, they probably don't need one with him on bass ;)

Why not? They played live just three of them in the 60s without any problem, there's no reason they can't do it now.

Yeah, I've seen some of the videos. Thats what I meant, with Jack Bruce on bass, you don't really need a rhythm guitar. I guess it just makes for a better sound? I doubt Doyle is opening for Cream, that seems very unlikely.

There's a big difference though between the recordings and the live numbers. Cream's weakness was also their greatest strength -- the long jams. But sometimes the jams meandered too much. I think it makes perfect sense that they'd want another guitarist for rhythm and trading licks. As Taso noted, there's often two or more guitar parts on the studio tracks. With two guitarists, there's more flexibility there for Clapton and Bruce. Bruce plays lead on bass not rhythm. When I saw the Who a couple of years ago, Simon Townshend was playing guitar along with Pete. As Pete said in an interview, with Simon along sharing guitar with him, the group had more flexibility to play more numbers. And let's not forget that Harrison played rhythm on "Badge". It may not be "Cream" 1967/68, but it could never be that Cream. It will still be "Cream" 2005 though. Time moves on and so, alas, must we.
Sorry for the ramble.

You are probably right on there.
I wouldn't mind betting Clapton will have his two backing singers on some of the tracks, I mean they are bound to update the numbers they are going to play otherwise would there be any point in a reunion and no doubt there will be guests. (Billy Preston maybe or the like).
they have all moved on musically so its not going to be Cream as we know them, raw music at its best. It will be a highly polished performance and a real treat to watch. (IMHO)
