Wow, some people are unbelieveable daft. I love this one the opening page:

"then the bomb called Elvis was dropped". Damn right, Elvis was the bomb! :P

I also found the list of the following quite amusing:

NOISE MUSIC EMBRACES:
1. Rebellion
Didn't slaves rebel in olden days? And I'm sure they didn't have 'Noise' back then! Point in Fact, the people who set up this 'organiasation' are rebelling againt a culture themselves are the not?

2. Violence
If anyone promotes violence in this day and age, its Bush and Blair - invading coutries, killing innocents, harbouring nukes....

3. Nihilism
This is way outta left field IMO. I bet they thought most people wouldn't know what it is, but think it sounds evil
http://www.iep.utm.edu/n/nihilism.htm for info

4. Escapism
It is inherent in human nature to escape our reality. Why else do we go to space, invent virtual reality, playing computer games, drink alcohol, and generally do activities to "Take our minds off things"?

5. Drugs / Alcoholism
Ok, maybe this one can't be TOTALLY disregarded, but I still find it hard to believe that a person decides to do a gram of coke after listening to a record.

And so the list goes on and on and on.......

On the plus side, they have given me a whole bunch of new bands to go listen to :P

Pete

"Spirit of Rebellion;" sounds like something you'd hear Parsley screaming about :)

She must have realized that M.A.D.D was already taken - or even M.A.D - because what she's talking about, which I know is just a rant by a fed-up mom, but still doesn't make any sense - is dissonance. She could've called it Mothers Against Dissonance - M.A.D. Or, more to the point, Mothers Against Dissonant Music - M.A.D.M - Madam.

It's actually C.M.A.N., or S.B.M.A.N. You can fill in the 'C' and the 'S.B.'

To a certain extent, aside from the semi-facist 'Burn your Beatles albums because of what John said' mentality, there 'is' a certain point to it, as far as sound design and whatnot - I mean I think a lot of us here know how pure sound can affect a person - BUT, some of the most pleasant stuff I hear is totally, completely random 'noise.' Like a waterfall, the sound of a stream or water-fountain, wind through the trees.

She is obviously just a frustrated parent trying to get control of her own kids again and doesn't understand why they rebel. Maybe it's against her or what she stands (speaks) for? Farbeit for her to take a look in the mirror.

Oh by the way, I enjoy Glen Miller too, but...even that is FAR from being the sound of a stream slipping over rocks :)

Thanks for the link though; I wonder what she'd think of Prussian Blue?

Reminds me of Pen & Teller's BS with a lady that's trying to outlaw cussing.

ahhaha, that's good for a laugh. I'm glad to hear it's a joke because there are enough extremists out there as it is.

Guitarin' isn't a job, so don't make it one.

I read that and thought my wife could have written it :)

Even though she's a former rock singer, and no doubt she's my biggest fan, she often wears industrial headphones when I practice.

And then there was the Christmas gift with the left-handed compliment... she gave me a CD set of Classical guitar pieces, and I put it on... one of the first cuts is Pepe Romero playing Romanza. She says "This is nice". I say "I do this piece... you heard me play it yesterday."

She says "Yeah, but he's GOOD" :)
