I am afraid sooner than later. I just received an email from one of my backpack buddies. he heard that last week two guys were charged by a grizzley. they had to use pepper spray. then , this week, another charge reported; a mother and cubs.

we have pepper spray.

now a charge is just one of the behaviors of bears. when they feel threatened they make a fake attack to scare you off. I can take a hint.
before the charge the bear usually knows you are there before you see it. at that point the bear moves away. but when surprised or separated from the cubs they make a charge.
if that does not scare off the offender they do attack for real.
they can cover 150 feet (15 meters more or less) in seconds o there is no running away.
I packed and weighed my pack. it comes in around forty pounds. I won't run very fast at all.
I am ala carte. :)

I was in Custer State Park in SD a couple of years ago, this guy on a motorcycle got stuck in the middle of a herd of bison. He came between a momma and her calf. It was not pretty

"The Last Post".... isn't that a memorial thing that buglers play?..

Have a a great trip. While you're gone the suspense here will be ...um... 'unbearable'. So I hope your trip is more beery than beary.

Cheers,

Chris

Maybe somebody ought to go by and check to make sure all his gear's safe while he's gone?
