"Thunder of the Gods" is a book about Led Zeppelin. you can learn all about the antics, the band, the groupies, the drugs and drinking, and the one about the fish..or shark if I remember.
Like Mike's example, this is more of the band than just one man, but Saucerful of Secrets: The Pink Floyd Odyssey
by Nicholas Schaffner was a great read for the inside info of their early days.
"Walk This Way," the Aerosmith autobiography is an excellent read. Also, "Scar Tissue" by Anthony Kiedis is very interesting, although not stricly about a guitarist.
Use the Big Muff, Luke

I've read Bob Dylan's auto biography. Made me lose half the respect I had for the man, can't recommend it to anyone who likes his music.
