Saw B.B. King in December. His playing and singing were incredible. To say he just plays a few licks here and there is a great and unfair misrepresentation of his artistry. He makes that guitar sing.

I REALLY wanted to see B.B. when he came by my neck of the woods in December, but just wasn't able to. Hopefully next year. I'd like to see him while he's still up to playing and touring. B.B. King is one of the few guitarist who you can hear one note and you know EXACTLY who it is.

I think Brent Mason, Steve Gaines, and Son House are underrated.

hi
I was Playing San Andreas and I heard a song that brings to mind
another over/underrated Guitar Player... Vernon Reid from Living Color.
I like the Solo in Cult of Personality. It kinda reminds me of
an overworked industrial machine that suddenly blows a gasket :)

And Pete can say what he wants... He ain't playing at my kid's b-day party. :D

I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, but when
you're a 22lb sledge, do you really have to be?

Saw Lyle Lovett and others in concert last night -- don't think too many people realize how good the guy is. He was overshadowed by John Hiatt for pure showmanship (and John is pretty good), but LL has a sort of quiet virtuosity than most of the audience probably didn't even notice. Quite a fingerstyle and swing player -- always bringinh out the best in musicians playing with him.

Vernon Reid doesn't get the credit deserved from the general public, but the music community knows ...

Hmmm... I think I'll learn the cult... song today.
problem is I only have a hollowbody with a harp looking tail piece.
so the solo is gonna ....probably not sound very good...

Anyways another guitar player that has to explain having "funny" pictures
is Chuck Berry.

I think He's over/under rated.

Also, and his playing is deceptively complicated IMHO. It always sounded
like that simple blues shuffle over & over again... til you try to play it.

Wayy off topic. I like the sound track to Vice city better than San Andreas.
Even though blowing away innocent bystanders to Patsy Cline is really
cool :)

I think Chuck Berry has contributed more to the roots of RnR and RnR performance as an art, than actual guitar playing. I can appreciate his writing (ignoring the throwaway exceptions, many are classics), singing and duckwalking a lot more than the actual music coming from his guitar. Too often it seems as if Chuck Berry can't play Chuck Berry ... but the show goes on.

alright ill start. i think the most under rated guitarists are Al Di Meola and Prince. i think the most over rated guitarists are Yngwie Malmsteen and Angus Young (his solos are cool but you know.... totally over rated). i think the most over rated band is Nirvana.... YUCK!
under rated... definately prince. jason becker doesnt really get talked about very much either.

as for over rated you nailed it. dont get me wrong, i love angus, but hes way too repetitive.

I'd tell you who I think never got/gets the kudos he deserved/s, but that would give the "Guess that Riff" away. Suffice to say his name is well known amongst guitarists (and probably musicians, as a whole), but not the general public, IMHO.

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
