Being able to play a song or two from each group would make you a versatile guitarist.

Lover Boy

Other than that, that's a pretty fun list.

By the way, Lover Boy was pretty cool, I was just kidding. :D

You certainly run the gambit with that list, Heart to Megadeth, Tommy Tutone to Metallica.
I don't see Captain and Tanille?

WHat is there to say about one's taste? Your list contains masses of great music, but is brutally lacking in 99% of music genres. I see little jazz, funk, classical, electronics, hip hop, Uber Death Metal, singer/songwriter, country, bluegrass, flamengo, soul, world music (native american, latin, africa, you name it) etc. etc. etc. You might want to try some wildly different stuff and see if you can take a few things from it and apply it to guitar. I really believe that you end up being a mix of everything you listen to and the more music you listen to the more you'll understand music and be able to consciously find your own place in it. Check out what your examples listened to, listen to that and find out what their inspiration was. Keep digging, keep listening and keep pulling some stuff out of everything you like. You like a certain part in a Beethoven song? Write it down, analyze it and think of how you can make it yours.

But anyway, you've got a nice selection of electrical guitar music there. All just my opinions.

I don't understand why your asking for opinions on your tastes. What's the difference?

However: I'd do what Arjen said, listen to some jazz, some funk, classical , steal some stuff, mix it in with what you know!!

It's a good list, i listen to close to every band on that list.
A few i don't take an interest in unfortunetly, although i do see a few im gonna have to look into.

I would list off the band si listen to but i have to many, i have a tendancy to like every type of music there is, as some points or another i listen to a bit of opera, classical ect... you name it really.

New goal #1: Buy an amp.
New goal #2: Buy a 5-string.
New goal #3: Get better then OWA at music.

I don't like music so I can't pick bands.

My real problem is that I like such variety that the list would go on forever.

Awesome. I saw him in 98, but I don't remember much, can't wait for him to start touring again.
