As long as I'm hijacking Trevor's thread to brag, I'll include this, too:
My daughter (age 16) is the drum major (conductor) for her high school marching band, a position she had to audition for and which carries a lot of prestige. She reminds me frequently that there is a parking space by the music wing designated for the drum major IF ONLY SHE HAD A CAR!
This photo was taken at the State Marching Band Competition in October. It was 33 degrees (F) and raining. We were miserable in the stadium bleachers, even with umbrellas and blankets. The daughter came down sick the next day, no surprise, when you consider how many hours she was outdoors in that outfit.
She plays flute in the concert band and tenor sax in the jazz band, and is a very good student as well. Now if she could just get that teen girl moodiness under control. :D

:D Sounds like you've got good reason to brag 'em up!
You're exactly right, Matt (in the pic) is 12. He's a great kid, even his teachers all tell us so, and that's saying something about a middle-school-age boy! He attracts friends (and now the girls, too  ) like a magnet. Smart, athletic, great sense of humor, and a perfect degree of sensitivity. His friends' parents all love to have him around - they say he's polite, even. :P He seems to have it all. Don't know where he got it, but he seemed to.
Margaret
Wow - you sound like a proud mom! So, how much is actually true!? Good for you. My kids are too young to play, but hopefully they'll dig the "crazy rock and roll" and stay away from the next generation of Britney Spears...

Margaret you have a couple of fine looking kids there, you have every right to be proud of them.
All we need now is photo of yourself in the "post a photo" thread :P .

Play the good stuff for them while they're young and hopefully they'll eventually return to it after their teeny-bop years. My son likes hip-hop/rap, but he's been watching a lot of AC/DC, Led Zep, Ozzy, Aerosmith, and a few decent country tunes on YouTube lately. :)

Yeah, Margaret, your daughter's a doll! Son's a handsome fellow, too!
My son-in-law was the drum major of our high school band when my son and daughter were both playing in the pit. (They played mallets.) The band won a lot of awards in competitions, and they used to get perfect scores for the drum major with nice comments. He really put on a show when he saluted the judges. He'd invented a way of pulling off his hat and tumbling it forward one complete flip with it landing cradled in his left arm as he gave a snappy salute. Nice little flourish.

It's all what they listen to as they grow up. When my daughter was 7-9 she listened to brittany and all that dreck cause she grew up seeing brittany and her peers on the disney channel.
When she decided she really liked playing music not just listening to it her listening choices changed. For her piano competion last summer other kids were doing things like the Imperial march from star wars, a variety of different songs from disney movies etc. My little monster did "Ballin the Wall" by New Orleans piano great Professor Longhair. As I mentioned before, now that she is playing sax as well we jam out together on some great old rockers and she does a fair bobby keys impression when we do stones tunes.
In the end, the phases and fads will come and go, but the apple don't fall far from the tree.
Immature? Of course I'm immature Einstein, I'm 50 and in a Rock and ROll band.

My eldest likes pop-fluff  She even loves James @£&"^! Blunt
My youngest, however, is a rocker just like pop... We first found this out when The Motor's Airport came on the radio when she was about one, and she started headbanging. Good taste!
