Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls,
Look, we all know that when we lack inspiration it's kind of boring
even grab the guitar and pick it up and practice or play,.. right!?
Now, a flash of inspiration struck me :idea:
that what could be better if we inspire each other by just posting "things" that inspire us, to help each
other to stay on track??!!
It could be YouTube video of cool licks to master, a live show of some sort,
an inspirational quote like:
“Sometimes you want to give up the guitar, you'll hate the guitar. But if you
stick with it, you're gonna be rewarded†-Jimi Hendrix
OR tips, tricks, your story or what ever. Anything that could trigger the desire to play and practice!
That would really be to great! And doesn't it feel good to know you might inspire another
guitarist to keep on going? Or if you, yourself want just a bit of inspiration,
you know you can trust GuitarNoise forum members that you can find something here !?
It could be a whole lot of fun!

OK, to start out... Im a HUGE Chris Whitley fan... Between his writing, and playing the guitar HIS way... and putting everything he had into each song... He has been a HUGE inspiration for me sence I ran across his stuff...

It realy was a game changer for me, and changed the way I looked at music.
As for what gets me moving...
Well none in the house realy cares much for me learning to play. They dont discurge me... but no real support. The only one that had shown intrest was my Dad. He had said he wanted to hear my playing, but sadly he passed away last month, and it never happanded. SO I guess now im kinda pushing foward to show him I can! Frankly its been a tough month for playing. And its been hard to put a lot of time into it, but last week I kicked myself in the butt, broke out my Resonator to mix things up, and have been having a blast agean. I think it helpped to mix things up, and put some time in on the Resonator, so I will stick with it, and let the LP rest for a few weeks!!

This is a great thread.
Getting stuck for something new to look at can make practice less productive, but also boring.
I Was inspired by a post from fleaaa a few weeks ago. He mentioned googling Ross Bolton and his funk guitar lesson. That really gave me something great to work on and I have made big steps in the last month on that.
I would recommend it, it's not hard to find on you tube.

Change out to new strings. It starts like a mechanical non-music non-guitar chore but then you have to tune it and get it right. You automatically start ripping notes off of it in different places as you set the tuning up. Then you hear how great newies sound and yer off!

I've done that before, and also dig out a guitar you haven't played in a wile...( we do all have more then one right? :D ) kinda makes it fresh, and for me anyway wakes up the head

When I need inspiration......I turn the radio on. Usually to a golden oldies channel, pick up the acoustic and play along to the songs I grew up with. Especially the old 60's pop songs. The great thing about them is, I know them so well, having sung along with them for 40 years or me....now I've gotten to be a decent rhythm guitarist, I can play along with them as well. Most of them are pretty easy to follow, you only need 3-4 chords - but you've got to find the right key, FEEL your way into the music and the chord changes, anticipate any changes of key - you'd be surprised how many songs from the 60's change key in the final chorus, usually from something like G to Ab, so great for practising those barre chords! - and get the timing right. All inside 2 mins 30 secs, for the most part.
I can quite easily lose a couple of hours doing that - then I'll feel refreshed and want to play some different music, out comes the electric, switch to a classic rock station and there goes another couple of hours.....
For songwriting inspiration, I usually look no further than the Sunday Songwriters Group - if there's nothing in a particular week to spark up my songwriting synapses, I'll dig out some of my old SSG songs and polish them up a bit.

I also love when songs shift key at the end, and therefore I often do that in
my own songwriting as well!
I agree, goldies are really inspirational,, coz they have that "true" feeling!
I like new music to but it feels more synthetic hehe
