I just discovered a band called The Hold Steady. http://theholdsteady.com
Southern rock sound with a weirdo spoken word sounding singer. Lovin' it.

Thats pretty cool :D Kind of southern punk rock, I really liked "Little Hood rat Friend"--the dog
I'm listening to country music this week. The local "Classic Rock" station played "Saturday Night Special" once too much. I HATE that song, and turned from a big fan of Lynyrd Skynyrd to being unforgivingly pissed at them when it came out, and only recently have started listening again to their songs that I like. For ~30 years I've been turning off the radio when I hear that ugly intro. Usually I just leave the radio off and maybe remember to turn it back on a day or so later, but this time I searched around for a while. The "new rock" stations were playing rap, which does nothing good for me, the "soft rock" and "Contemporary Christian Music" stations bore me to tears. The country music's got uniformly awful singers with an exaggerated whiny nasal accent that sounds nothing like real Southern people talking or singing, but I can tune out the singers and listen to the instrumentalists, and they're amazing! I've heard some of the finest slide guitar (bottleneck and lap style, as well as pedal steel), harp blowing, fiddling, etc. I've heard in a long time. And it's obvious that this is where the "classic rock" musicians have gone, as a lot of the country songs are just good old rock and roll with those horrible fake-country singers on top.
I think I'm going to stay here for a while. If I listen to it long enough, maybe I'll grow tolerant of the singing.

I just struggled with my slide playing(for an hour) so I gave my brain a rest and threw on some Drive-By Truckers.

David Bromberg, mostly Demon in Disguise. I've got a ticket to see him this Saturday at the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, NJ.
WOW! Is he still around playing. I have an old double album of his from a long time ago. It was a live album called "How Late'll Ya Play 'Till?" (or something close, its packed away in the garage) Great album. I really need to find me a turntable. I am sure I can get it on CD but "me loves me vinyl"
Interview guy: What is the source of your feedback?

Gospel, gospel and more gospel.
My friend, Susan and I are going to start doing a Monday night gospel thing. She's been doing it by herself (she's a keyboard player). I, personally, have never done much gospel, but Susan's musical background is mostly blues, so her gospel comes out bluesey, too. And I can darn well play the blues!!! So, we've been working on some stuff and I've just kind of immersed myself in gospel music to get a better feel for it. I was listening to Sister Rosetta Tharpe this morning. Too cool! That woman could wail! :D In learning about the genre I'm discovering some great music!
