I thought Eruption was a song. A solo is when the other instruments stop playing, and one instrument plays alone. There are no other instruments in Eruption.

Its an impressive display of his ability.

Why are there 2 threads?

Eruption has giutar, bass and drums.

But if I had to pick 1 solo as the all time best I'd have to go with the guitar solo in "the cover of the rolling stone", that's beautiful.

I guess it depends what your looking for and what motivates you. Call me what you will but Slashes solo on sweet child of mine is what gave me the guitar bug, and still motivates me to pick up the guitar when I get frustrated.

Brian

I don't understand, I got the guitar, and the beer, the commercial said I'd be a rock star by now...

the reason we fall is so we can learn how to pick ourselves back up

CBC Radio in Canada recently held a contest on this very question and Comfortably Numb was the winner.

I am with Diceman

Highway Star by Deep Purple 8) That's got to be the best ever IMHO.

I also like Stranglehold by Ted Nugent.

All Along the Watchtower covered by Jimi Hendrix has 3 great solos.

I've Seen All Good People by Steve Howe of Yes has a fantastic solo.

I'm Goin' Home by Alvin Lee of Ten Years After at Woodstock was awesome.

The psychedelic solo by Neil Young on Mr. Soul with Buffalo Springfield is unbelieveable.

If you know something better than Rock and Roll, I'd like to hear it - Jerry Lee Lewis

I can't stand the solo in Freebird. It's repititious, and tacky to me. I usually turn it off after the first minute, I get bored with it.

So if a million people or more like it, no one else is allowed to not like it? I tend to agree with Taso. Seems like they keep playing the same lick over and over again, just at different parts of the fretboard. But to each his own.
Mick Taylor on the Stone's Sympathy for the Devil

This was actually Keith Richards. However, a fantastic Mick Taylor solo that some may not have heard is on a song called Marriage Madness off of John Mayall's Back to the Roots album. Great slow blues guitar. I urge people to check that song out if you like Mick or blues.

Indeed sir, that is what is happening. Which is why some people say its impressive. "look at how much he does with one phrase!" But yeah, I can't stand it. The first minute of the solo is very nice though. It'd be a nice solo to go threw just to pick up some licks for your own solos.
