Ok, I was leaving a casino today, and in the parking lot I could hear "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" by I have no idea who and it made me cringe! I couldn't get out of there fast enough. Reminds me of "Loving You" by Phoebe Snow (?). Ugh. Chick music enjoyed by chicks that are WAY not my type....

Which songs do you hate, and why? I hate those two because it's trite and sappy and I am probably a little jaded and bitter  !

I absolutely cannot abide Hotel California, either. Always hated the Eagles, but it is on every jukebox everywhere, and since most people bar-hop instead of camping in one spot like I do, they play that ^&$#((#$)@ song at every bar they go to, and never seem to be there when it plays! A buddy of mine and I counted once and we heard it TEN TIMES in one night. I thought my buddy the bartender was going to shoot someone or himself when it was all over. I don't think the lyrics make any sense (I can't figure them out, anyway)--is it about heroin or what? Wait wait wait, I am not sure I even care. Gawd.

Can't stand anything by Crosby, Stills and Nash, either, probably because of some deep seeded antimosity toward a hippie uncle who has listened to them exclusively since 1970, I think. Or Grand Funk Railroad. I'd rather chew tin foil than listen to that. I saw their "Behind The Music" and felt like an alien watching from another planet. I'll never get why they bothered to leave Flynt, MI.

Believe me, I have to stop myself, the list is endless. It slays me. But, as much as I hate so many other bands and songs, it's gotta be "Hotel California" for me. Anyone else?

I realize that everyone likes what they like, and I am not trying to cause trouble. I am just curious as to why people can't stand certain stuff. I am sure I offended almost everyone here by admitting I hate the Eagles (judging by album sales alone, me and one other guy in Ohio are the only two that don't own their Greatest Hits record), but I think we all know that there is no accounting for taste, and can handle it when someone has a different opinion about something--especially music.

Oh, and I like some Barry Manilow stuff, The Archies, lots of different lounge music, and Erasure. Just wanted to give you Eagles fans some ammo for when you lay into me! :D

I can stomach almost anything unless it is hip-hop (c)rap. ALL of that style of music, if it has to be called music, is bad. IMO

Treat others how you would like to be treated.

Every time I think about what songs I hate I can only come up with "anything by Tiny Tim". :P

I can come up with a few close seconds like most anything of Barry Manilows and Rap. Just can't get into Rap at all. As a matter of fact I turned off the American music awards last night when the 1st through 5th song I heard was a rap song. I think you still call it rap or is there a new "politically correct" name for it  Maybe it is hip-hop that bford was referring to.

I like most music,
I strongly dislike Rap/hip hop.
I don't care for Tiny Tim, Boy George, Captain and Taneel (sp?) or Donnie and Marrie Osmond.
I am sure there are a few singles I could live without but can't really think of any off hand.

Anything by: Lindsey Lohan, Ashlee Simpson, Hillary Duff and Kermit the Frog! Actually, I saw Kermit on a Target commercial and his lip singing was pretty good!

Maybe I move in restricted circles, but I've never yet met anybody who actually liked rap.

Moai,

You can add me to the list of non-owners of the Eagles Greatest Hits. 8) Admittedly, we do have some old Eagles LPs, that my wife owned before we were married. But one of the advantages of not ever having got around to hooking up our old turntable, is that I've never had to listen to them. :)

Unfortunately, I quite like the tune of "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face", and actually played it on the guitar the other day, when I came across it in a songbook. So, alas, I've just blown any "buddy points" I may have acquired throughy not liking the Eagles....

I've never been a huge Country fan, but have started to come around after discovering that there are quite a few songs from that side of music that are both easy and fun to actually play .

I try to see what there is to like about anything I hear, but I struggle with a lot of modern pop. Much of it seems to be "Made for Video" - in other words is all about "image" and manufactured "attitude" with precious little that you could really call musical content.

Cheers, Chris

Don't know if it applies here but the song "Yellow Bird" makes me gag. That being said the song that Hillary Duff sang? on the AMA awards last night was a close second. If it weren't for the carrot of the Stones yet to appear, I would have turned the show off. Too bad my VCR is down or I could have saved 3 hours of torture. Other than 4 or 5 performances in the 3 hours the show was a complete waste of time.

Dispite liking classical guitar (both traditional and distorted electric guitar stuff) I cant stand a lot of classical! Things like the use of volume...Just anoys me, a minute of barely hearing anything and then it erupts... It always just feels a bit pretenious to me. Sounds strange I know lol

And, despite being an Ygnwie Malmsteen fan, I really hate the song 'Asylum Part I'. Sure its technically very impressive...But my god have I ever heard a less musical load of (c)rap in my life!!!? No I havnt is the answer!

Oh and I cant stand Indie! And other similar genres...Sooooo monotonous

Green Day burns me a new one too. Come on! Everything sounds the same to me! Rock opera my behind, it sucks! And quit wearing make-up, you look like idiots!

Thanks for the spike in blood pressure!

We Built This City on Rock and Roll...makes me scream in pain.

I also despise anything rap-related...and Phil Collins. Drum, Phil, don't sing.

Celin Dion "My Heart Will Go On." Had a girlfriend that would listen to it 24/7 if she could. Makes me sick thinking of the song.

Country music (not "classic" country) I can't stand.

Most of everything else I agree with.

Not so much a song I don't like as a technique: I hate every Van Halen song that has that squeal in it. You surely know what I mean, they thought it was so cool they did it over and over again. Sounds to me like it's the singer and the guitar together. Like nails on a chalkboard. I really despise Van Halen on the whole because of it.

My ex used to play a Violent Femmes song that would make me very angry for some odd reason. I hated it but I dont know the name of it.
