I just received this book as a gift.  It seems like it's designed for those who want to be shredders which is not necessarily my goal but  I am working with the first five excersises in the book and  you know what, they are kind of fun and seem beneficial.  A cd which let's you hear how the excersises should sound.is included  I'll post back when I've gotten through more of the book but it should be awhile.  The first five excersises took me an hour to get through and I  haven't mastered them yet.  I consider myself an avdanced beginner/low level intermediate.  I'll let you know if this for shredders only or can be beneficial for everybody.  The first five as I said seem beneficial for everbody but there are over 200 exercises so again it's going to be a long time before I get through them all, if I get through them.  Has anybody else tried the book?

A quote from Jamey Andreas's review:

"This is an excellent book for the serious rock/metal guitarist. Troy Stetina  has put together a series of exercises designed to develop all the essential techniques used by the virtuoso electric guitarist. If you want to be blazing like Kirk, Eddie, Steve & Joe, this is the book for you!"

and a link to the rest of it:

I have Troy's "Total Rock Guitar" book/CD and I think it is excellent for learning electric guitar.  I have heard good things about his other books as well.  He has a website at:   http://www.stetina.com

I found it stashed in my brother's closet, published in 1990, comes with a tape, but can't seem to find it.

The exercises are great...

Anywhere I can get the sound files?

Why don't you go to his website and ask him?  Maybe he can send you a CD (or sell you one for a modest "upgrade" fee).

Would you guys agree that this book is NOT for beginners?

Even though I'm a beginner, I have most of my time learning about lead guitar  :P. I know a lot of scales, and consider myself way better in terms of playing licks and solos, than playing rhythm. I have studied considerable theory in terms of soloing and etc.

So, you guys think that I would be able to get through this book? Even I can't understand this book, can't I develop my speed by using the book? I would appreciate any replys. Thanks!
