Can i use a guitar distortion pedal for singing

Im just wanting distortion on my mic when im singing, i was wondering if a guitar pedal would do the trick??

No! Different frequency response.. A guitar pedal is for guitar only. Sorry dude.

Get yourself a reverb or echo unit.

You can run a microphone through a guitar amp on its overdrive channel though, and it sounds pretty sweet, like you're on an old time radio or something. Think of that part in "Holiday" by Green Day, if you're familiar with the song.
