Hi all. I've barely been singing for about 6 months but I haven't done any research or taken any lessons (the research started today). What do you think I could improve on? Here's my myspace http://www.myspace.com/starlightincentive - I obviously have to work on everything hah, but is there anything that really stands out? I'm taking a singing class in college next semester btw. And I know my voice sounds kinda electronic, but you can still pretty much hear my actual voice. I don't expect any compliments but don't be too mean either. :P

Hey Cosmic,

I find your voice very pleasant, though I have to admit it's hard to hear through all of the pitch correction you have on it! Are you using this as an effect, or because you think you need it? I suspect you are looking to create an effect, because you really lay it on (you are close to the much-discussed "Cher-effect") and because you bill yourself as emotronic.

Personally, I don't like the sound of your voice all gunked up with that correction. But a style is a style, I suppose, and you may well find fans--who knows?

I do believe your voice is quite nice, and could easily stand alone if you'd like to go that way. If you think you need pitch correction, I think you may be wrong.

Best,
Jersey Jack

Hey,
First of all it really is hard to tell how your singing is with that effect, sometimes it sounded like it may or may not be in tune, but it could have been the effect lol.

Your voice to me sounded a bit 'whiny'... but then again one of the songs you covered was a blink 182 song and one of the singers (tom i think?) tends to have a whiny voice too, so if thats what your going for then well done! If not maybe try directing the air more towards the mouth and not letting it resonate as much in the nasal areas.

Other than that it sounded good! But i would recommend making a recording without the effect if you really want help! :)

Keep on singing :D.
Nath

Thanks guys. I'll work on it some more of course. I used auto-tune but I used it for the effect, not to correct any notes (I don't know how to do that and I don't want to learn either). There's some notes I didn't hit correctly but I'll probably rerecord it again (without the effect) to see what you think. Thanks. :]

And I have sinus problems.. does that mean I'll always have a nasally voice or is can that be fixed with technique?

Try a Neti Pot! Look here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8sDIbRAXlg

It's not as gross as it looks, and it works wonders on the sinuses.

Nasality is not necessarily a bad thing--ask Willie Nelson! 8)
