Wasn't it Cardinal Richlieu who said something like, "Give me the boy at seven and I'll give you the man?" This little guy's four in April....loves listening to me play (so he obviously hasn't developed great taste yet, but there's time....) but loves to join in and make a racket.....
Anyway, here's a pic of my youngest grandson.....note the concentration.....and the fact he's had to put two fingers inside the slide to keep it steady....

Get him a tube he can grasp with his middle & index fingers and thumb and use like a steel, long enough to reach across the strings. It'll be a lot handier for lap playing. That boy's liable to really take off with it!
