Hey ive just recently started trying to play using "lap tapping" style, and although I can make it work in standard tuning theres a lot going on sometimes haha. I was wondering what some good open tunings where, something maybe like what the dashboard confessional guy uses where like 5 of the strings are all the same note? But then youd have to switch tunings to change keys, would be kinda annoying.

open tunings are very cool. some fiind them limiting , others not.
open E is a good starter tuning. you have power chords up and down the neck.
and since it starts i E you know the positions of all the chords.
I play in open G. its great for blues.
if you think about open tuning a bit, you'll find you wont be limited to one key.
in open G I have otrouble plyaing in D, C, A, ...Em is tricky tho.
an open tuning source I use is from
Brads Page of Steel.
Dogbite, playing in a minor key in a major open tuning isn't too hard. If you're sliding, fret the string tuned to the third one fret behind the slide. Won't work lapstyle, where the strings are too high to fret. That's why you never want a nut extender to play bottleneck, you need to be able to fret. Also, you often can just not play the third, and the "power chord" can be interpreted as major or minor.
"A cheerful heart is good medicine."
when I slide it is 99% lap style.
when I have to play along with others in Em I just avoid certain strings.
my open G is :
G B D G B D
Stienar. no wonder , when jamming friday night, that I was able to play ssome tasty stuff.
I played the second fret (A) and had some cool notes in B.
they worked with the E minor jam.
so it worked because I played single notes against an open string.
very chimey and open sounding.
the violin player really liked it .
G is a great place to start
D is great for the Elmore James / Blind Willie Johnson stuff
If you're playing lap style check out C6 tuning!
Try this different C6 I found that's a lot of fun:
(Low to high) F G A C E G

nice double.
saying the word Germany isnt swearing
C6 is a great tuning. I use C6 Am7 one one lap steel. pen G on another.
Ive used several other tunings but have settled for those two on lap.
Nice toy lanzdona, I love to get my mitts on that for a while.
Lance,
German Zollbeamter are the pits, they're only there to prove that they're not a total waste to society (which they are). My record, so far, is 2 1/2 hours for a form to be filled out, which included a change of shift (one guy stood up and walked away, his replacement came, sat down and continued as if nothing had happened). I recently spent 1 1/2 hours whilst an idiot ticked a few boxes (it's automated on computer, now) and printed the form out.
I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?
