at work today I played Steinar's CD, ' Southern Moon Northern Lights'. I have a new co worker and he never heard me play this before. (I play it often). he remarked about the beautiful tone in the guitars. I explained the best I could about what instruments Steinar uses.
the CD ended and my co worker hit play again. he wants to hear it again. he is facinated.
he is a musician in his own wright. he plays tuba (bass) in a five piece brass combo.

anyway. Steinar, you have another fan. and I think those that haven't heard this CD should.

Rico. it is good. I really like the clarity in the playing. I like the amount of overdrive he uses and yet retains the clarity I speak of.
when I kick in my OD pedal my tone gets a bit too dirty. garbled. of course I am using regular single coil pickups. I do have a nice horseshoe pup on my old Rickenbacher. I still don't get that sweet tone Steinar does.
think his ears are burning?

Thanks guys! :D

I really love overdrive and often use more overdrive than it may sound like, but I also go for clarity in my playing. If anything, the secret is in string damping, string damping, and more string damping.... 8)
On the CD I used several ODs in front of my POD, it was recorded over a period of two years and if memory serves me right I used a Visual Sound Route 66, Fulltone FullDrive and Visual Sound Jekyll & Hyde during that period (these days I use two Cmatmods ODs, a SignaDrive and a Brownie). I'm not a gear snob in any way, I believe all pedals/amps/whatever have their 'sweet spot' where you can find something useful.. One example,- I'm a tremolo freak, and these days I use a ~$50 Johnson "Fifties" tremolo after using a $200+ Fulltone "SupaTrem" for years, and am perfectly happy with it...

BTW - after a long break I'm back at work on my "Hendrix tribute" CD, and hope to have it finished on this side of the summer so it can be released this autumn. Looks like it'll be released on Tom Principato's "Powerhouse Records" label, we've "agreed to agree" on something....... 8)
