I've trying to learn bluegrass for some time now,and haven't got it right. i've been playing in open G,DGDGBD,which works great for blues, rock and delta blues. For the tuning in GBDGBD,are the 6th and 5th strings tuned real low? I tuned them with my guitar tuner and I thought it was tuned too high,so I tuned it back down.I don't want to do any damage to the reso,it's the only one I got. Any suggestions?

For GBDGBD the two low strings are actually tuned up - the A string is raised a whole step to B and the low E (sixth) string is raised a step-and-a-half to G.

They make special sets of strings for the dobro specifically for this tuning. Wouldn't hurt to have this to get started.

Hope this helps.

Peace

Thanks. I thought is tuned up,but it didn't feel right. I'll try the custom string set.

Yeah, with standard strings GBDGBD is too much tension for most roundneck guitars.
