i'm playing dobro lap style with a Dunlop stevens slide bar and with a bullet bar. after around 2 years both are now showing stripe like worn out spots where the strings tend to catch easily, making the sliding less smotth then it used to be. anybody knows if there are easy way to fix the problem, rather than buying new ones? both bars are metal ones. thanks

I've had this problem on a couple of my steel slides. I remedied the problem with using an emery board (fingernail file) over the rough spots, then going over that with steel wool. It won't be fast work, but it will do the job. Just be sure to not take off enough so it makes the problem worse. Good luck!

my Dunlop bullet with a chrome finish slipped from my grip once. somehow it got a tiny nick. it caught on the string sometimes. I could never seem to keep from rotating the bar, as the nick would inevitably turn string side down.
I finally took a sharp file to it. it was a jewelers file so it did not have the large teeth as a rasp file would.
the bar is hardened and it took a long time to merely smooth the edges of the nick. I couldn't file it enough to remove it.
lots of very fine emery paper sanded it smoother. I don't notice it at all.
I did buy another so I could have a slide in both places where I play guitar ( house and studio). it doesn't hurt to have a few slides.
