Well, this kind of fits the idea for this week - the idea of something being preordained.

Its one of those "didn't you see it coming?" songs I've always wanted to write - this one from a perspective I can relate to; that of a vagabond. In this case, our vagabond is moaning about his disconnectedness as the reason he can't let himself get close to anyone. At the end, its (hopefully) not quite clear who you should pity more, the person being dumped or the vagabond doing the dumping.

Thinkin' bout is as I go All my life how does it show

Can't you see the things I've done Right though my lies

In the lines you see around my eyes

Holdin' on while lettin' go Which is which how should I know

Holdin on to what is good Let go of the sh&t

Tellin' the difference that's the trick

Makin' friends then say goodbye

Get to know a place and then you fly

Like a dog without a bone I'll be sittin' all alone

I just wonder where the hell is home

So many roads so many places

No its not like a vacation

Memory's a flash of days gone by

That is it for you and I

Thinkin' bout is as I go All my life how does it show

Can you see the ones I loved broken hearts, let downs, and such

As I drag my bag on to the bus

Hi Chris :D

Yes, I can see what you mean about 'who should we feel sorrier for'....
This person reminds me a bit of my former wife (Mel)

As some of you may know - I'm a believer in astrology, and hopefully this wont be taken the wrong way....

The line - Can't you see the things I've done right through my lies - really reminded me of Mel.
She's a Libra sun, and they are known for 'justice'; that whole 'balance' thing in their glyph.
What they are after is a funny sort of 'peace' and harmony in all things in their life.
And sometimes, they might end up weaving a web of lies throughout their lives for just that pourpose....
Keeping peace, and saving peoples feelings.
Although the lies are for good, they do eventually get discovered and end up causing MANY problems with the people in
their lives.... Mel is one like that

She's also now in the process of 'cleaning house' in the relationship dept.
Cutting many ties lately.

That aside, she has left a long list of hurt guys in her wake, while she herself has never been dumped.

Still, one can't help feeling sorry for her, wondering if she ever will settle down with someone
and find her hearts content - or if she will end up old and lonely.

So, yeah - I could relate with these lyrics.

Ken

"The man who has begun to live more seriously within
begins to live more simply without"
-Ernest Hemingway

"A genuine individual is an outright nuisance in a factory"
-Orson Welles

Thanks Ken,
I'm sorry if this dredged up some bad memories for you. I seem to be writing lots of stuff like that lately - that's the stuff that seems to be bubbling to the surface. As a constantly moving vagabond myself, I can relate because its the dilemna I always face; let myself become close friends with someone (and be hurt/sad when I move to another country) or just don't get close to anyone - and lose my humanity in the process. A crappy choice either way - I usually choose the painful option.

I wrote this song from the perspective of my own battle with this vagabond syndrome (if I had chosen the other way) and projected it onto someone dumping a girlfriend/boyfriend just to see where it would go.

All the best,

Chris
