Decided to knock that rust off my pen again...Hope all are well

Telephoto Lens

V1
My memory's got a telephoto lens
So I develop the pictures and try to make sense
Of what really happened and what you meant by what you said

V2
Because my vision's 20/20 in the eye of my mind
But looking ahead I'm about as good as blind
Nothing's what it seems especially when it comes to you

Chorus
I see the smile in your eyes and the blink of your mouth
The words that you said, I can watch them come out
As I said “have a nice day” and you said “you too”
But I know what you meant to say was “I love you”

V3
All my friends are sure that I've gone insane
But this lens plays it all back on the screen in my brain
And I can read between the lines to find out what you were trying to say

Chorus
I see the smile in your eyes and the blink of your mouth
The words that you said, I can watch them come out
As I said “catch you later” and you said “you too”
But I know what you meant to say was “I love you”

Bridge
I remember all those times we've spoken
Small talk about the world and the weather
Not what you said, but the way you said it
Convinces me it's our destiny to be together

Chorus
I see the smile in your eyes and the blink of your mouth
The words that you said, I can watch them come out
Doesn't matter what you say - I know it's true
‘Cause every word you speak to me means “I love you”

Hey Doug, it's been a while - good to see you back!

I can't pick much fault with this - I always try and put chords to any putative new song, just to get a sense of rhythm....this works fine till the "And I can read between the lines to find out what you were trying to say" line - I'm not sure whether that should be one long drawn-out line as it's written, or if you make it two separate lines, still drawn out.....either way, it should work.

I'll reiterate - good to have you back!

:D :D :D

Hiya Vic. Thanks for the warm welcome back.

Yes, I stumbled there. After reviewing the instant reply, we are reversing the call. I think it will read:

"Where I read between the lines to decipher what you said"

This will shave 4 syllables off the line and bring the meter in line with verses 1 and 2 and add the word "decipher", which is just a fun word to sing :)

What do you think?

Andre

Works for me - that line flows smoothly now. It worked before, although it was a stretch. Up to you which you keep, of course - but my personal preference would be for the re-written line. Nice writing!
