hey.. rather blunt approach, true... and I don't like the title anymore..

Beauty in Pieces

For the past few days I've been holding my tongue,
Ignored the telephone and tried to make myself at home
In the fifth floor with a view of the saddest urban moon
And the scorn of the sun rendering anyone blind to the facts
With pressure applied
Piles a-mounting
And the sink caving in

I know, I've been on a slide lately
And if walking backwards will stop it, I'll do it

So cast off your shoes, defy that blurred calendar
And settle on cushions tonight
See, I brought those ancient records we've never meant to forget
Here's a cardboard box alive with post-it notes and to-do-lists
And do you remember our weeks up at the Baltic Sea?
I went back to get you that kaleidoscope
You'd been admiring, sincere like a child
Let's settle on cushions tonight
Give these records a spin, like the room we're in
Behold the walls shifting
And worn-out shapes regain their grace
We swear we'll never grow
Never grow out of these clothes,
Our beautiful bones
Broken, but gleaming with hope
We will never grow
A rational mind and parched eyes
We will never grow that old

so that's what springs from an inflamed larynx and talking banned... ;-)
cheers,
straycat.

Hi Straycat,

Well, it definitely has a kalaidescope feel to it - it shifts and it is colorful and you never know where it's going next!

This is a great line:

In the fifth floor with a view of the saddest urban moon

Man, it just flows and says SO much.

It's a nice piece of poetry, all in all. I hope your larynx gets better soon!

Doug

If I can't talk I will say nothing then { Joke}

Piles a-mounting
And the sink caving in

Sounds like my kitchen every time the wife takes off to visit our daughter 8 hours by car away ..

Here's a cardboard box alive with post-it notes and to-do-lists
I wondered where that went , that cardboard box is called my life :)

I tried singing this Straycat I thought of a ballard sort of thing but there is a few little tongue twisters in here for this ol blaoke I'm affraid .

Slow tempo ?

Here is to you as good as you are
And here is to me as bad as I am
As good as you are and as bad as I am
I'm as good as you are as bad as I am

I could see this song building slowly, from (virtually) a whisper at the start to finishing with a scream....unfortunately, with an inflamed larynx, that isn't going to happen! This is yet another of your songs, Anne, if Jim Morrison had lived long enough I'd bet he'd have written something like this - I get a kind of Doors feel to it right from the start.

Hope those vocal chords are better soon.....BTW did you ever add a vocal to the acoustic version of "Chords Of Doubt?" - you never let me know! And I was quite thrilled with the electric version.......PM me, let me know!

:D :D :D

boy, i'm glad you all seem to like it:-)

doug.. i'm very happy you think it flows, my stuff seldom enough really does.
i rather expected tongue twisters like trev said;-)

i don't know about the music... but i definitely didn't think of the doors, vic ;-) even though i take it as a huge compliment. love most of jim's stuff. i sort of imagined a less doomy kind of feel to it... more like maybe (as i've been listening to them a lot lately) a Melpo Mene song.. "lady" or "to be someone"... or so;-)
actually i can talk again! wow, what an achievement. still i'll try not to sing/talk too much the next week.
oh, vic, i'm sorry. indeed, i did no vocals for the acoustic version, but i will catch up on that as soon as my layrinx will allow. promise!

thank you all :D
cheers,
straycat.
