Okay, here's a thread to your suggestions for various SSG writers in accordance with the Week 34 - Part 2 assignment. In case you didn't read it, here it is:
Vic and Ken came up with great ideas last week by making suggestions for each other in regard to musical styles or an artist that the SSG writer might write a song for.
This week I'd like you to post any suggestion along the same lines in this thread right here. Just add your suggestions as you come up with them.
So you might post that Straycat write a Tin Pan Alley style song or that Ken write a hymn. The idea is to give the writers ideas in order to help get them to step outside of their normal realm of songwriting comfort. Do feel free to make (many) multiple suggestions.
If you are a writer who doesn't get a suggestion, don't be shy about asking for input.
Writers, your job is to take these suggestions and to consider them seriously and see if they stir up any ideas. If you want to get started on a song, go for it. The finished song is still going to be a ways down the road, but it doesn't hurt to get a head start!
And I'm going to start things out not by making a suggestion, but for asking for suggestions for myself!

So, I had an idea to do a baseball song.
There seems to be a lot of sports fans about GN, so....
I propose that ANY sportsfans here in the SSG write a song about their favorite sport/team.

'City on the Edge of Forever'.
For those of you who know the episode;
It was called: Edith Keeler Must Die
Hah - I may not be well up on Bergman, but Star Trek's a different matter! Wasn't that the episode where Bones went back in time through a portal and changed history - Kirk and Spock had to follow and put it right? If I recall correctly, Edith Keeler was played by none other than Joan Collins.
This topic sounds like fun - nothing springs immediately to mind, but I'll have a good think about it. Still waiting for Kath's thrash metal epic from last week - it must be good if she's working so long on it!
Oh and by the way, it was Ken's idea - I just went along for the ride! Like I said in another thread, I'll try anything once apart from Morris Dancing and incest......

Hmmm... let's see if I can offer suggestions... how about trying an Okkervil River kind of song (for an idea of their style - "For Real" or "Westfall")... maybe that would be interesting for you, Vic? I dunno... Then of course I'd always recommend a look at Bright Eyes, this is truly inspirational stuff (for me at least)... say "A Song to Pass the Time", "Spent on Rainy Days" or "A Line Allows Progress, a Circle Does Not" ...... hmmm... maybe John would like to try that :wink:
And maybe Ken (CitiZenNoir) would like to check out Maximilian Hecker (e.g. "Polyester", "Silly Lily, Funny Bunny") or Anthony and the Johnsons ("For Today I am a Boy", "Hope There's Someone")?
I am really not sure if these songs do anything for you (or if you might even consider them inside your comfort zone..). If you're interested have a listen and see if it takes you anywhere. If you're not, feel completely free to ignore my suggestions :D

I wrote those lyrics quite a while back.... Before I had a pc; so they never ended up in my computer.
I can't seem to find the paper anywhere :evil:
In addition to the actual story IN the script.... there's also a story behind the script dealing with the writer [Harlan Ellison],
who; to this day harbors such anger and resentment about how the Trek episode came out....
I worked both story lines into the parody :D
The only part of my lyrics that I can remember off hand are:

and if in this ever changing scripted revision
Spock makes you break down and cry....
cause EDITH KEELER MUST DIE!!!!
That might even be wrong.

Of course I wanted to use actual samples of Spock saying to Kirk: "Jim; Edith Keeler, must die"
You know.... in that pause right before those words get sung....?
And [in my head at least], McCartney's music mixes perfectly with Trek songs (the Star Trek 'Fight Song') and Trek sound effects!

I REALLY dug that stuff by Max Hecker!
That's kinda how my sound is going.... and that's kinda the singing style I'm shooting for.

A Springsteen-influenced rocker's a good choice for David - I always thought "Waiting For Nancy" had a touch of the Boss, lyrically. Another suggestion might be a Roy Orbison type uptempo song, in the style of "Oh Pretty Woman" or "You Got It" or even something Travelling Wilbury-flavoured - the first Wilburys album is amazingly acoustic guitar/ rhythm guitar friendly. Plenty of scope to get that 12-string working!
