Hello, my name is BKA, and I am a songwriting virgin.

I am giving this week's assignment a go, because it feels a bit easier to write from a persona, I guess.

I have only done words so far. I figured since I have the line from the random generator, that the words would have to come first and see what happens with the music later. That, and my guitar playing is pretty abysmal

So:

Band name: Guerlichon (which is SO awesome, and I might just keep it for future log ins and band names).

Quote: Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power. We have guided missiles and misguided men.
Martin Luther King Jr. (1929 - 1968), Strength to Love, 1963

I have taken "We have guided missiles and misguided men" from the quote.

Misguided men

Fatherless childrenn and readerless books
Celebrities trading on fleeting good looks
A means to an end, an end with sharp hooks
If we slowed down we simply might cry...

We have guided missiles and misguided men
Too late to run when the countdown strikes ten
If the sirens go off, will we cry out amen?
And hope that our god is the right one?

Rushing to work and falling in line
Keep your eyes down and pretend it's all fine
And hope what is left at the end of the day
Buys your family the love you don't show them...

We have guided missiles and misguided men
Too late to run when the countdown strikes ten
If the sirens go off, will we cry out amen?
And hope that our god is the right one?

Look to your left and look to your right
And see if your neighbours are ready to fight
Something is shifting, and what happens then?
The foundations are crumbling beneath us...

We have guided missiles and misguided men
Too late to run when the countdown strikes ten
If the sirens go off, will we cry out amen?
And hope that our god is the right one?

What I lack in talent and natural ability, I will have to make up with stubborness.

Hi BKA,

That is indeed an excellent name for a band, and quite the story behind it. :D

That is a very fine effort indeed for a "songwriting virgin". Plenty of good strong images and phrases. I hope you decide to keep on with this and get to write some music as well. And I hope that you keep writing songs too, now that you've made a start.

Cheers,

Chris

Thanks for the replies. It was rather scary hitting the submit button, I have to say.

Even scarier is thinking about the music. I confess I'm a little stumped, so am tossing up between just trying to record something acapella  and seeing what comes from that, or else working out which of the limited chords I have seems to fit

I love my steep learning curves. (Shame I seem to have a bit of a roller coaster effect.)
