Nothing like the last minute ;) :

(no title yet)

V1
I stand below a wall that's formed
of hopes I've kept through burdens borne
examining the stones I've laid
each one precariously placed

CHORUS
though it used to stand
tall and proud
the foundation crumbles
even now
this wall of dreams is
coming down
this wall of dreams is
coming down

V2
as the massive shadow, threatening, grows
the missing mortor clearly shows
and I stand grounded in the reality
that this rocky wall will bury me

CHORUS
though it used to stand
tall and proud
the foundation crumbles
even now
this wall of dreams is
coming down
this wall of dreams is
coming down

BRIDGE
the dust picks up
to fill my lungs
each day I fear
the avalanche comes
there's no escape
nowhere to run
it looms too high
and the end's begun

CHORUS
though it used to stand
tall and proud
the foundation crumbles
even now
this wall of dreams is
coming down
this wall of dreams is
coming down

Hi Portia,
I like the song in principle, the only thing that bugs me a little bit ( its pretty minor really) is that the metaphor for the relationship is a wall. For me walls are generally barriers. Trouble is I cant think of anything else that you could use.
I really like this bit
as the massive shadow, threatening, grows
the missing mortor clearly shows
the loveless relationship. Good work. :D

Hmm, my impression was that the wall was a metaphor for an unfulfilled dream, like unreciprocated affection. Most of the single people I know, with myself leading the pack, tend to build up potential relationships in our minds, only for them to come crashing down around us. I have a friend going through this right now, maybe I'll run the lyrics past her.

But we'll have to hear from Portia to know for sure.

BTW, I really liked the line about the missing mortar too. Good stuff.

It's always interesting to see how different people interpret my songs. I very rarely explain what I'm thinking when I write my songs because I prefer to see what others get out of it (which to me is far more important), but just so you know - when I wrote this, I wasn't thinking about a relationship at all - although it had occurred to me that someone might read it that way. I was actually thinking about the hopes and dreams of life in general. I was recently reminded by an old friend that our 10 year high school reunion was coming up and got to thinking of all the dreams we had and plans we made back then and how, so often, they just came crashing down around us.

I just got a rough recording up of this one at my website: http://portia.dmusic.com

It's under the Guitarnoise SSG Songs heading and is called Wall of Dreams.

Take a listen and let me know what you think.
