It's the blues baby!

I knew in the beginning that we were meant to be
I knew right then and there that you were the one for me
I wondered all along when you and I would finally meet
But when it comes to loving you babe
I get the salty with the sweet.

You taste like honeysuckle that’s been hangin on the vine
But I also taste the sting of the oceans salty brine
The combination baby tends to knock me off my feet
When it comes to loving you babe
I like the salty with the sweet.

I’m tossing and I’m turning babe I can’t sleep a wink
My mind is full of bumble bees and honey I can’t think
I try to hide my feelings, I try to be discreet
Oh when it comes to loving you babe
I get the salty with the sweet.

All the sugar from your kisses mixes with my tears
From waiting for you to come around all these many years
I’m getting tired of waiting babe I may just admit defeat
Cause when it comes to waiting on you baby
I get the salty with the sweet.

Falling in love is like learning to play the guitar; first you learn to follow the rules, then you learn to play with your heart.

I like the read but a lot of the phrases are familiar and verge on cliche.

Hi Kathy,

Good start. :D Nice angle on personification of a food item.... I'm not sure what the food is .....Cracker Jacks?......Fiddle Faddle?

Consider dropping some of the verbiage streamline the lyrics.

For example:

I knew FROM the beginning.... we were meant to be
I knew right then and there.... you were the one for me
I wondered FOR SO LONG when WE would finally meet
But when it comes to loving you babe
I get the salty with the sweet.

You taste like honeysuckle hangin on the vine
But I also taste the sting of the oceans salty brine
The combination baby ...knock me off my feet
When it comes to loving you babe
I like the salty with the sweet.

etc....

Thanks for sharing :D

There may be a few phrases that have been overused in songs, but overall I don't see the song as cliche. I can definitely hear this as blues. Some would say that the blues genre itself is cliche. The salty with the sweet phrase is an appropriate and novel way of conveying an idea that has been written about over and over. Works for me.

One line had me confused: "I try to hide my feelings, I try to be discreet"

Why is the singer hiding her feelings? Is she trying to not let the guy know that she loves him?
