Week 29: Dear

I was listening to Bowie when I wrote this.

Dear

Eaten by life
and the scriptures demand
It's hard to stand
but you
noble and unscathed
were saved
by the rush and pull of time
thrown into a land
that I can't seem to find.

and I waive my right to care
but I'll stick around
It's the best I can dare
cause' I'm afraid of this town

I see you baited
by memories
of an old house
and children at ease
of laughter
and a vision of me
but I'm battered
I'm tired
and I can hardly stand
you want someone familiar
but that's not who I am

Perhaps a shift
in immeasurable fate
will one day take
the burden
the soreness and fear
and steer
this restless mind
into a moment
of ease
