I'm so glad to be back! This lyric came to me at one o'clock this morning, so I haven't had a chance to put any music to it just yet. Inspired by people re-entering my life.

Whatever

Chorus: Whatever way I look now
There seems to be a cost
Whether gazing towards the future
Or back at what's been lost

I know there's a new story
Somewhere round the bend
I'll keep on walking boldly
'Til I reach this road's end

Chorus

I'll carry what you taught me
It's been Heaven and it's been Hell
But even through the darkness
I hope I loved you well

Chorus

I don't know how I loved you
Or how I stayed the course
I was honoured by the strength you gave
That seemed straight from the Source

Take care,

Casey

Nice way to return to the SSG. Like the fact that there's an undercurrent of optimism in spite of the sad, wistfulness of the lyrics. Love the end of the second verse:
But even through the darkness
I hope I loved you well

Only thing I'd suggest is tweaking the third line of the chorus, replacing "I look" with "looking" or even another verb. Since you used "I look" in the first line, it just seems to give a more natural conversational tone:
Whatever way I look now
There seems to be a cost
Whether looking (gazing?) towards the future
Or back at what's been lost

Looking forward to more! And Happy New Year!

Thanks, David.

I've made so many attempts at a song like this, it's not even funny. I quite like this one, though...and I'll sit down at some point with the guitar and knock out a tune, along with my other recent composition.

Great to be back and writing - forgot that is its own buzz. :)

Take care,

Casey
