The title is Warrior Princess, but it's also about her friend and from her friend's point of view. After all, the sidekick doesn't usually get credit.

verse:

Looking for atonement
For the things you've done
You're history is dark.
But in a daring moment,
I thought this would be fun.
When I came off the farm.

chorus:

You're the warrior princess.
I'm the other one.
We roam the known world
Keeping evil on the run.

verse:

You're tall, dark, and beautiful.
You're not much for girl talk
You're not afraid to die.
I'm loyal and dutiful
And I'll sleep on rocks
Just to hear your war cry.

verse:

We've fought a few pirates.
We've fought our share of tyrants.
We've fought sneaky demons.
We've fought against fate.
We've fought gods and giants.
We get mad and we get even.

chorus

verse:

You don't need a man,
Though you could have Hercules
In love and in warfare.
Yes, you know you can
Always do what you please.
It's your own affair.

chorus

Hi Renee,

Very nice! :D I love the war cry

The sidekick's awe with tinges of jealousy for the princess come through.

Suggestion: Consider another version of the music with more minor chords. Right now the music seems wistful and dreamy; which is nice, but doesn't seem to fit the life and death scenarios in the lyrics.....but the diminished chord in there was nice for tension building.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, James. The lyrics wrote themselves. This is based on a popular U.S. and New Zealand television show that ended years ago, "Xena, Warrior Princess." I should have said so on the Soundclick page and now have. The whole TV series was lighthearted, in spite of the death and evil. Often tongue in cheek. So I think the major chords are appropriate.

I had to do some research to figure out how Xena did her war cry. What I found were some suggestions that it was based on what Arab women sometimes do at such events as weddings. Found a video of the ululation technique and practiced. I was trying not to be too loud and maybe made it a bit too soft.

I looked up some youtube videos and it looks like you nailed it :D

It's weird that I knew what the song was based on, but never watched the show, so I missed the "intended audience" knowledge base, but it makes sense, like if you watch Monk, the theme music is not dark; even though the shows are based on solving murders....so now I want to hear the theme song to Xena...I would assume it should be light-hearted or major chords as well....I'd call it "epic"/dramatic style not necessarily 'dark'....nice
