I'm Leaving Today.

Sitting in the picture window, staring at the trees,
This is the last time I'll ever see this view,
We shared it through the good times, lately the bad,
Now I'm leaving it all behind, it's all for you.

There's a bag packed in the hallway, with my few posessions,
Some old clothes and a few CD's ain't much to take,
Not much to show, for the last ten years or so,
But I can't go on living like a fake.....

(Chorus) I'm leaving today, yes I'm out of this place,
I'm just waiting for my ride.
I'm moving out, without a backward glance or a doubt,
While I've still got my pride.

Looking out the living room window, at the kids in the street,
This is the last time I'll ever see them play,
I won't even keep the memories, I'll put 'em out of my mind,
I'm just thankful to be on my way.

My guitars are leaving with me, you can keep the TV's,
I'll never have to suffer the Hallmark channel again,
You can keep everything else, I'll just take my music,
And get out now while I'm still relatively sane......

(Chorus) I'm leaving today, yes I'm out of this place,
I'm just waiting for my ride.
I'm moving out, without a backward glance or a doubt,
While I've still got my pride.

(Chorus) Yes I'm leaving today, yes I'm on my way,
There's a taxi outside for me,
Driver put the pedal down, let's get out of town,
Feels so good to be finally free.....

I'll work on the music for this in the morning - I've got the melody and the phrasing sorted out, just need to practise the changes. It's going to be driven by an acoustic riff, with muted electric for 2nd guitar and a solo. I think the solo might come between the second chorus and the third chorus, but I'm also thinking I might repeat the second chorus after the solo before the final chorus, then maybe change key a semitone up for that last chorus.....

EDIT - Just after I finished this, I thought back to week 23 and the "unfinished songs".....I put the two unfinished songs together, put music to the "spare" chorus and came up with this.....I think it manages to catch the drift of this week's assignment as well.....

Someday/Today

(E)Walking down the road, heading (D)no(A)where
(E)Just a change of scenery, got to be (D)some(A)where
(E)Sun on my back and the breeze in (D)my (A)face
(E)Feeling good I found my (D)own (A)space

(D)Maybe some(A)day I'll (C)find some (G)place and settle (E)down
But for (D)now I'll (A)just keep (C)moving to the (G)next small (B)town(A)(B)

(same pattern as first verse)
Don't feel the need to be burdened with posessions,
Don't have to follow just one direction,
There's nowhere I have to be in a hurry,
And I ain't got a single care or worry,

(D)Maybe some(A)day I'll (C)find some (G)place and settle (E)down
But for (D)now I'll (A)just keep (C)moving to the (G)next small (B)town(A)(B)

(C#m)Today's the (B)first (A)day, of the (G#m)rest of my (C#m)life,
A clean (B)slate, a (A)blank page, a (G#m)chance to (C#m)start anew,
Today (B)feels like (A)more than (G#m)just a be(C#m)ginning,
It (D)feels like an (A)end to the (B)blues.

(D)Maybe some(A)day I'll (C)find some (G)place and settle (E)down
But for (D)now I'll (A)just keep (C)moving to the (G)next small (B)town(A)(B)

Sensitive material Vic....
Especially considering the real life situation behind it.

I'm not sure that I know how to respond to it....
Except to say that it reminded me of some things that perhaps will make for good song writing material.

I know in my own situation, it was very cathartic to write songs about what was happening, my feelings.
I came up with some BRUTAL lyrics.... Fortunately I never wrote them down.
And once they helped me to get beyond those feelings.... I happily let them go

Hang in there Bro.

Catharsis is pretty much what the first song's about - I actually had the idea for it while I was looking out of the window, waiting for my ride. I'm not one for brooding - get it out of your system, move on.

So I'll probably bore the pants off you all these next few weeks with "Hey I'm free and I feel good about it!" songs....

Still got my guitars, still got my computer, still got a working brain cell so things are on the up....
