Woah, ever have a moment where you're head just explodes. For some peculiar oddity this topic just ended my year long writer's block. Perhaps because I've had one of those years where everything just sucks, nothing goes right. Whatever 2009 will be awesome.

Anyways back to my head exploding: it snuck into a thought that the worst day anyone has ever had would be Caesar on the day of his assassination. Then kowabunga! I started strumming my guitar and thought about Caesar's assassination and I went through several distinct albeit similar rhythms that perfectly translates to parts of a song. Not to let my moment of brilliance slip away, I used the most convenient recording device to write down the mood/idea of each part so I wouldn't forget.

Part 1: It's a new day, Caesar gets ready to go to the forum and unannounced to him get stabbed.
A songbird sings in the early mist,
Awake king of kings it's morning.
Caesar rise, it's the Ides of March,
Wake up with a sleepy stagger.

Wake to the sun, kiss your lover now,
Lend a ear to my warning.
Turn you're eyes to those you trust,
For in your faith there's a dagger.

Part 2: It's midway through the day for hard working Mark Antony, but he learns of the plot to kill Caesar.
A songbird sings in the midday sun,
Master of the Horse you're needed.
Mark Antony pick up your sword,
Your loyal leader's in peril.

Part 3: Caesar goes to the forum and gets attacked, Mark Antony is rushing to save him.
Part 4: Caesar realizes he's going to die and gets stabbed.
Part 5: Et tu Brutus?

Gah, it's late. Only got halfway through part two. Must sleep, will finish in morning. I sure hope that I don't wake up and find my notes to be the rambling of some tired hopeless half asleep oaf.

Well, you've definitely peaked my interest :D ...and yeah, that was a pretty historic "bad day"....You mentioned your still 'in the flow' on this one, but it looks like a unique song in the making

Suggestion
For in your faith there's a dagger. This might not be getting the 'point' across [pun intended  ]

Maybe something like one of these"

A faithful one hides a dagger
A faithful friend hides a dagger
Among your faithful, there's a dagger
One of your faithful hides a dagger

or change faithful to trusted (because they weren't really faithful in the end)

A trusted one hides a dagger
A trusted friend hides a dagger
Among your trusted, there's a dagger
One of your trusted hides a dagger

No, not ramblings at all.
Good morning.
Time to get back to work on this song . . . it's good.

It's the rock that gives the stream its music . . . and the stream that gives the rock its roll.

This is definitely shaping up to be interesting.

I'll echo James' thoughts about the end of the first verse. Maybe:

Turn your eyes to those you trust,
Faithful faces conceal daggers

will work. Maybe not.

Looking forward to reading (and hearing) how it all turns out. The song, that is.

Peace

Hmmm. Could be a long song once it's finished.

Part 4 - I thought the first blow was a knife in his back. Does that matter?

Well, welcome to the SSG! I'd love to see you finish this.....I mean, I know how the story ends, but it's always nice to see it from a fresh perspective or point of view.....

It's looking good so far....

Mark Antony pick up your sword,
Your loyal leader's in peril.

Ride now, ride to Rome,
Arrive before Caesar's dead.
Do not slow, do not tire,
Or you shall hear Caesar's knell.

And the villain Casca produces his cursed dagger.
And a flying blow grazes Caesars neck.
Mark Antony is only a moment away now.
Caesar flee while you still have your life.

"Violence" echoes the voice of the great leader.
As several more aid to kill this man.
Now Caesar's bleeding and begins to run.
Caesar flee while you still have your life.

The fatal blow enter Caesar's chest.
And through bloody eyes he sees the final assassin.
With a final breath he scorns his attacker.
You too? You too Brutus?

EDIT: I'd love for you to hear this song, I'm not much of a singer but whatever (I'm told I do Jimmy good but everything else horrible). Unfortunately I have no way to record this... Is there a cheap way to record music on a computer.

Looks pretty solid on the read. :D

1. Plug in a mic or use a web cam for your audio source
2.I use the sound recorder that comes with windows....check under Start>Programs>Accessories>Entertainment>Sound Recorder
3. When you use the Sound Recorder program, change the quality to CD quality under the properties...
4. To upload to soundclick.com, you need to change the wav file to an MP3. I use http://www.freerip.com/ It is free and it works fine when I am just converting one song at a time.

Or use Audacity to record and mix - it's a free download - and export to mp3.

I agree, it's a solid read. Don't worry about having a dodgy voice, you ain't heard me sing yet :-)

There are USB mics too. I don't know enough about them to make a recommendation but I think some are fairly inexpensive.
