Nice turnout this week - a lot of new songs. Isn't it funny how that happens EVERY time a songwriting assignment includes the devil? I've already done one song this week, but I had an idea for another.....so here it is.

Me An' The Devil

Me an' the devil, we go back a long ways,
Yeah, me an' the devil, we go back a long ways,
And we'll still be at odds, at the end of days.

Me an' the devil, we've had some good times,
Yeah, me an' the devil, we've had some good times,
He's led me on, took me over the line.

There's always been a devil inside me,
Telling me what to do,
Yeah, there's always been a devil inside me,
Confusin' my truth,
And there'll always be a devil inside me,
Directing my blues.....

Well, me an' the devil, been together so long,
Yeah, me an' the devil, been together so long,
He's always at my shoulder, always urging me on.

There's always been a devil inside me,
Telling me what to do,
Yeah, there's always been a devil inside me,
Confusin' my truth,
And there'll always be a devil inside me,
Directing my blues.....

He's insistent, persistent,
Telling me how to behave,
He's consistent, resistant,
Dragging me to my grave....

(Guitar solo here......)

Yeah, there's always been a devil inside me,
Telling me what to do,
Yeah, there's always been a devil inside me,
Confusin' my truth,
And there'll always be a devil inside me,
Directing my blues.....
-----------------------------------------------------------

Strange, that's the second blues song I've written this week, and both of them have a chorus - I've written literally DOZENS of blues songs before, but I can't remember a single one having a chorus.....

Oh well.....there's always a first time. And a second time, after that.....

:D :D :D

Vic,

Good start Part II
Suggestion:
Consider staying with one position for the devil - either beside you or inside you; I prefer the first
He's always at my shoulder
I like this idea -maybe enhance the idea something about the angel on your shoulder packing up or giving up a long time ago.

, always urging me on
maybe Always prodding me along (as in prodding w/ the pitch fork)

another suggestion:
He's insistent, persistent,
(ALWAYS) LEADING ME ASTRAY
He's consistent, resistant,
Dragging me to my grave....

James
