Well, I just whipped this off real quick. I think this SSG is just what I needed! I call this..............
Dead City
Cold wind blows down a frozen street
I pull my collar tight as I shuffle my feet
What happened to this city that I used to know
My mind races back to times from long ago
The shops are closed there's not a sole in sight
I see the welcome beacon of the liquor store light
I walk up to the door and then I step inside
The liquor store clerk knows I got nothing to hide
Dead City miles away from nowhere
Dead city fifty miles north of hell
Dead city miles north of nowhere
You know it's a dead city and the city's gone to hell
What happened to the record store I used to love
What happened to the people who would push and shove
Why do I feel so empty as I wander and roam
What happened to my friends what happened to my home
My childhood and dreams are just a memory now
A plastic bag blows by I watch a lonely snow plow
The driver he don't see me the driver he don't care
The drivers just a part of this lonely nightmare
Dead City miles away from nowhere
Dead city fifty miles north of hell
Dead city miles north of nowhere
You know it's a dead city and the city's gone to hell
Lights are flashing back and forth from yellow green to red
I'm standing in the street and I think this city's dead
My friends have gone away there aint no jobs in this town
The side walks are crumbling and the buildings falling down
There aint no going home there aint no going back
There aint no hometown city my memories fade to black
Sometimes you never know some times you just can't tell
Sometimes you find a city fifty miles north of hell
Dead City miles away from nowhere
Dead city fifty miles north of hell
Dead city miles north of nowhere
You know it's a dead city and the city's gone to hell

Hey TR
Yeh, this is lookin' good.
I had one suggestion about the liquor store . . .
The shops are closed there's not a soul in sight
I see the welcome beacon of the liquor store light
One of the few businesses that hasn't died (that has survived?)
The store clerk nods when I step inside (watches me closely when I step inside?)
. . . or something like that . . .
KR2
It's the rock that gives the stream its music . . . and the stream that gives the rock its roll.
Your pretty fast there yourself
Looks good....real good...I do like KR2's suggestion as well. Next step MP3 let's have a listen :D

Great TR!
I really love the imagery in the song, almost kind of like a Noir thing for me.
In Space, no one can hear me sing!
Ahhhhh .. KR2 nice suggestions but this time I'm sticking to my lyrics. It just flowed. Can't let a guy from Miami tell me how I felt 30 years ago purchasing liquor in our dying open mall when I was running away from home and it was -20 degrees out. I'm damm lucky I didn't freeze to death. Had a fight with the parents and left the house. I lived 7 miles from town, walked/hitched in. Caught a ride on a truck of oranges coming up from Florida oddly enough. Bought a bottle of cheap wiskie to keep warm. Well, thats about it ... sticking to my guns with this one ... too personal for anyone to help.

then stick with them!!! I liked it - only one line looked awkward to me:
There aint no hometown city my memories fade to black
town or city? I don't think both are needed. (Also seemed to knock of the rhythm a bit, but that could be how I read it)
Liked the imagery. Would like to hear it.

Yeah, I thought about that town/city thing. I'm sure I can fix it. Suggestions on wording and such are definetly welcome, I just don't want to change key elements of the story is all I was getting at cause it is based on a memory. That means keep on a suggesting KR2  I do appreciate it! Everyone! I know it is cryptic in the lyrics but I told the liquor store clerk my troubles hence the liquor store clerk knows I got nothing to hide.
Oh, and PS ....... we got a killer riff for this one. Thunderfingers and I are gonna work it over tonight. Killer riff and he's composed a complimentary baseline that is killer as well.

TR, nice lyrics, I look forward to the music.
What happened to this city that I used to know
My mind races back to times from long ago
This is awkward to me. Oh wait I get it! Your saying the city changed from the one you knew. At first I read it as you used to know what happened to the city but forgot. Never mind. :)
So what happened to the city? What industry died off and left the town emaciated? What's the dark secret?

Ummm ... all of em? Back in the 1970's they got the bright idea to tear down the very old downtown and build a mall. An open air mall on the Canadian border where winter temps go below zero. The building looks like a prison, no stores of any worth and to this day it is an eye sore. Over the years the few factorys we had closed one by one and well, you know the story there. A small factory did move into the mall though! But there are no stores there. That liquor store is even gone. Yes, back in the 70's they tore down a beautiful 150 year old downtown with a history to build an eye sore. Do you know that under those streets beneath the blacktop there was a brick road with trolley tracks? If they had only thought to restore not destroy we might have been a touris destination. Oh, and thank Vic Lewis for spurring this memory. The ancor store of our old downtown was ........ Woolworths!

That's very sad. You've got some beautiful country up there.

Oh man what a shame. And it's a great location on the water.
