Owl's Head & Cherry Stones

Second grade was easy: I'll be an author, I said
Third grade was okay: the discovery of drawing
Added illustration to my plan, but then somewhere
I must have lost my bearings

Now I'm planting cherry trees with Julia
From the threshold of the house in the street
In the city I've lived in ever since graduation

When a polka dot dress couldn't save me
From running home through nightmare streets
I kept to the broken line with stones in my shoes
And a villain behind every tree

Now I'm planting cherry trees with Julia
From the threshold of the house in the street
In the city I've lived in ever since

I became a match in the box of university
My stomach elsewhere, I took all the wrong trams
And sat lost on a bench in the asphalt sea
Till faces turned into anchor places

Now I'm planting cherry trees with Julia
From the threshold of the house in the street
In the city I've lived in

Piling illegible notes and reading lists
Falling for songs, languages, smiles and trees to climb,
Places and plans and plans and plans, “see you in 2011”,
Till, next to J from Vancouver under a map of Asia, I see I'm

Keeping to the broken line, stammering on
Feet firmly on the road, hands firmly in the ink
And an owl's head turning upon my shoulders
Eyes darting across the sights, I divide
Home and heart and home, I've got
My heart set upon a thousand things
Faroese, a bookshop, a record label,
Art school and another year in Sweden
Well, I suppose I'll soon start
like the rainbow does
when the clouds dissolve
and the sun wanders off

But for now, while the evening's still warming our feet,
Julia and me, we'll rest here, spitting stones in the hope
Of cherry trees springing up while we're gone

Ah, I know, rambling again. Some ideas:
1) replace Julia by the owl's head? as in:
Now I'm planting cherry trees
With an owl's head on my knees
From the threshold of the house...
?
To add the second central image to the chorus, as well, and not just mention it off-handedly in the beast of a bridge?

2) re-order, cut, shape-shift? ah, but how/where/what?

Sorry for subjecting you to this mess again.
Cheers,
straycat.

Hi Straycat,

You've got a lot of nice school images going on. :D I really like the title as well. I was hoping for a "this will sound like...." clue but nevertheless, it seems the music has a wide playing field for this one.

Thanks for sharing.

James
