Okay, perhaps a fairly bleak song, with glimers of hope hidden beneath the surface.
I'm personally a bit sick of the 'glossy magazine' countries/cities we're being handed by the media at the moment. The Beijing games with the atmosphere cleared up, the SA that's all culture and no crime. I feel like these are times to highlight the problems and go steps towards fixing them, rather than glossing over them. Anyway... I wrote a song... it's vaguely on 'topic', nice new name Vic ;)
(I took this to extremes, perhaps suits more of the broader african continent)
Civil war and civil strife
A nation of colour
That burns in the night
And all day long those happy songs,
That we all are singing
Show me a street and I'll show you a gun
Point me the way and tell me to run
Maybe one day we'll all get along
Till then my heart will bleed on
Facing today and facing tomorrow
Facing away and facing the sorrow
I wonder what will become of the world
Now the light is fading
Eye in the sky narrowing in
Man on the box no longer speaking
Wondering if he'll still get paid
If his hands are shaking
Heart of a lion coverd in gold
Heart of a nation already old
Thinking back to when the red was not
Somebody bleeding
Facing today and facing tomorrow
Facing away and facing the sorrow
I wonder what will become of the world
Now the light is fading
Little kid that runs in the street
Spinning around where no-one can see
But his shadow is catching up to him
No one hears his screaming
Crime and corruption all over town
People worship a blood diamond crown
And a little voice inside is shouting out
Something isn't right
Facing today and facing tomorrow
Facing away and facing the sorrow
I wonder what will become of the world
Now the light is fading
Facing today and facing tomorrow
Facing away and facing the sorrow
I wonder what will become of the world
Now the light is fading

Hmm, thanks for the comment. :)
I like your suggestion about the end of the verses, think I will change that.
I also wasn't entirely sure about that line other, I'll have a go at changing it while keeping the word 'crown'.

Hi Jay,
Comes across clear and strong. Good start. :D
