A fairly generic Country song in 3/4 time.
With my apoligies to Van Morrison (Moondance)
and Redd Stewart and Pee Wee King (Tennessee Waltz)
We Danced By The Light Of The Moon
(or Another Tennessee Waltz)
1-2-and -3
(G)We danced by the (C)light of the(G) moon
But the morning(Em) awakened too(D) soon(D7)
(G)You swore that you(G7) loved me
(C) Said You'd be(G) true
When we danced by the(D) light of the(G) moon
Was a clear and brisk October night
When you're beauty it first graced my sight
I asked for a dance You said you
Might take the chance
If we danced by the light of the moon
We danced by the light of the moon
But the morning awakened too soon
You swore that you loved me
Said You'd be true
When we danced by the light of the moon
Come the summer I made you my bride
At the altar we stood side by side
Before family and friends We pledged our
Love 'til the end
And we danced by the light of the moon
We danced by the light of the moon
But the morning awakened too soon
You swore that you loved me
Said You'd be true
When we danced by the light of the moon
Then came that Tennessee night
My tears they still burn from the sight
Of you and that man As you
Walked hand and hand
Then you danced by the light of the moon
We danced by the light of the moon
But the morning awakened too soon
You swore that you loved me
Said You'd be true
When we danced by the light of the moon

Nice work John. Puts me in mind of Waylon's Waltz Me TO Heaven as well.
Good Job!! :D
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming -- "WOW--What a Ride!"
Thanks Twisted
I'll have to check out that Waylon song I'm not familar with it.
Liked it. :D Good fun to sing.
And very runcible. 8) ( "They danced by the light of the moon" will forever be The Owl and The Pussycat for me.)
I guess this is the continuing story of "Owl and the Pussycat part 2 - How their love went wrong" in the classic tradition of country songs. :D
Hey John,
Ah, the classic country story: boy meets girl, boy marries girl, boy loses girl. And although it does have that country flavour, I kept reading it to the tune of Moondance and it was pretty cool that way.
What the song needs, I think, is either to remove one of the instances of the chorus, or too add a bridge. If you do go full out country this becomes a bit less of a concern, though.
Lyrically, I like the way the tag line ties it together. The feel fits the genre you're going for. But if you do go with more of a jazzy sound, then you may want to revisit some of the word choices and phrasings.
Ice cream is a dish best served cold.
SlowPlay,
You make a good point about the chorus or adding a bridge
even though I plan on it being a country tune.
Seeing how nothing is coming to me for a bridge a may try it
with one or more of the chorus' removed.
Thanks for the suggestion
John
Ok so I read SlowPlay's adivce and picked up my guitar and
revamped the song.
I don't know if it's a bridge or not but I gave a different
chord structure to verse 2 which I also use later as an
instrumental break.
Verses 1 and 3 still follow the same chords as the chorus
I also removed one chorus.

And thank you to Chris C for pointing out that I owe
my apoligies also to Edward Lear for sub-consiously
( I swear I didn't think of where that line came from)
ripping off his poem The Owl And The Pussycat
