Hi,
It's been a goal of mine to get a song written, recorded,
and posted all in one Monday night.
So for better or worse here it is.

Every Time I Think Of Her
The morning news depresses me
Tragedy with play by play
Off to take a shower
Start another day
The drive time DJ tells me jokes
It helps to clear my head
But still I end up missing her
And wishing I were dead
Every time I think of her
It's still the same routine
The tears start flowing down my cheeks
I feel like I could scream
Every time I think of her
It's the same old passion play
The look that I saw on her face
Before she walked away
I rush to be on time for work
Oh Hell! Let's not pretend
I punch the clock at 8:15
Looks like I'm late again
I'll make it up in overtime
By staying late tonight
There's nothing left to go home to
When this day gives up it light.
Every time I think of her
It's still the same routine
The tears start flowing down my cheeks
I feel like I could scream
Every time I think of her
It's the same old passion play
The words that I heard from her lips
Before she walked away
So I work another double shift
Just to try and keep me sane
I come home to my whiskey
And anesthetize my brain
I fall asleep by TV light
Wake to the morning news
Go off to fight another war
That I know I'm gonna lose
Every time I think of her
It's still the same routine
The tears start flowing down my cheeks
I feel like I could scream
Every time I think of her
It's the same old passion play
What could I do to make her stop
Before she walked away
John
A terrific twist on Bob's assignment, sir! The hat's off to you!
Only thing I'd suggest is getting rid of some of the first person pronouns, kind of making it a little more personal in the process:
So I work another double shift
To keep occupied and sane
Come back home to rye and whiskey
To anesthetize my brain
Fall asleep by TV light
Wake to the morning news
Go off to fight another war
That I know I'm gonna lose
(Man I love the last two lines!)
If I can't get my computer to start downloading things without crashing or taking the better part of a day (and then crashing) I may come to your house and have you play this for me!
Peace
Hi John
W O W thats the best way I can describe it
awesome brilliant
I love it ...
It sort of reminded me a bit of "The devil went down Georga " for some reason
That was suppose to be a complement

Here is to you as good as you are
And here is to me as bad as I am
As good as you are and as bad as I am
I'm as good as you are as bad as I am
The morning news depresses me
Tragedy with play by play
This line alone was worth the price of admission for me!
Falling in love is like learning to play the guitar; first you learn to follow the rules, then you learn to play with your heart.
Thanks
David,
I like your suggestions and will try them out
before the weekend if I get a chance.
I can also eliminate a couple pronouns in
the second verse easy enough. Thanks for
the comment on the last lines. I wasn't too
sure they worked that well.
You've mentioned a couple times recently
that you're have trouble downloading MP3s
if you like I would gladly burn you a CD of
some stuff. PM me if there is anything particular
you are interested in hearing.
I could get it to you when you are up my way
or make the trip south. It would give us an excuse
to get together.
Hilch,
Of course any comparison to Mr. Daniels would be a
compliment. Thank You.
Katreich
What somebody is charging admission? Where's my cut?
It's funny you and David both mentioned the lines I most
worried about as favorites.
I guess I am my own worst critic.
Thanks again
John
Great stuff, John!!! Excellent guitar, great vocals - although I was reminded more of Kenny Rogers - and a very good song as well!!!
You should throw more songs together like this!!!!
I really like this...
One little thing - when I clicked on the link, I got this....
"This window starts the SoundClick player. If you have enabled a pop-up blocker, you can click the link here: play the song "
Play the song was in purple writing, clicked on that and it took me nowhere...so I clicked on the www. at the bottom of your post.....
Again, excellent song mate....
Next week, you lazy so-and-so, I expect you to have your assignment written recorded and posted on Sunday - otherwise, I'll have to report you to Bob....
(Just kidding!!!!)
:D :D :D

I would have posted a reply the other day but I was more interested in reading and listening to everyone s offerings
Can you please just add me to the growing number of fans you are accumulating in here
This is terrific
Aghhhh
Not only am I a senior citizen
I'm now a bloody senior member
Are you people trying to tell me I'm old or what ?
over 700 posts ( I really do need to get out more )
So for better or worse here it is.
Very much for the better.
I can hear Mark Germino in this - that sort of semi sung semi spoken vocal works really well.
Excellent stuff
Bob
You are what you eat, eat well
Hey John,
This is just great, I really like the your take on the assignment , well done mate. Your guitar and singing topped the package off nicely. One day Im going to try to write a ballad, it's a style you do really well, as you've just proved here.
Cheers
Pbee
Thanks Guys
Hey Bob, I must learn more about Mark Germino.
I Goolged him but could only find a couple of short
samples. I think you are on to something and I
could learn a great deal as a songwriter and singer
by listening to his music.
If you know any good link about him please let me know.
John
yeah man
terrific stuff man
you rock man
Yeah Baby Yeah
Hi Celt,
I have to say I was VERY impressed with the MP3. Liked the song, loved your voice & playing style. I've always liked Steve Earle and this has that same quality. Even signed up for Soundclick so I can hear your other stuff. Thanks for sharing this and I look forward to listening to your other stuff.
Keep the faith...
Hey Bob, I must learn more about Mark Germino.
I have a 12" vinyl called Caught In The Act of Being Ourselves and your song is definitely in the style of that album and that's real
I'll see if I can find any decent links for him and let you know.
Bob
You are what you eat, eat well
You sound like John Prine!
Falling in love is like learning to play the guitar; first you learn to follow the rules, then you learn to play with your heart.
Even signed up for Soundclick so I can hear your other stuff.
And the stuff of many other GN & SSG contributors.
Hopefully you will also be posting some of yours ?
You sound like John Prine!
I wish, But I do a pretty fair rendition of Paradise.
Thank You
John
