I'm getting bored of just playing songs where I have to rely on a guitarist to make it sound like the song, so basically what I'm doing is filing up the background.
Could anyone recommend any bass(y) songs that sound good, have bass as the foremost sound or some solos.
Thanks
P.S. I've been playing for 6 months so something wtihin reason plz? #Though I'm not rubbish

I'm sure that a lot of people might not agree, but I think listening to live (or old) Who recordings would give you some good ideas. John Entwhistle was great at both providing the rhythm and the distinctive sound to the group.
Other power trios (or trios with singers) like Rush might fit the bill as well.
Peace
I'd have to agree with dhodge...Also, I have always liked flea's style with red hot chilli peppers, cause he seems to have lots of fillins and good bass linss and riffs thru out their songs. Blood sugar sex magic, by far their best CD that highlights this.......
Try out a few riffs of Pulling Teeth (Anesthiesa) by Metallica. Its just one big bass solo, but by yer name, you mite know that
Hope It Helps

I have a few reccomendations for you!
1. Rage against the machine.
Their first album has some kick ass bass, some songs involve slap solos, some involve fingerstyle solos. Drop d songs and plectrum play, so there's pretty neat stuff to practice. I'm guessing that since Commerford now plays for Audioslave, this band should also have a very strong bass.
2. Pink Floyd
In order to practice more smooth play and become more accurate. I can think of songs like "one of these days" where the bassline is really simple but it is sooooo cool if you can play it accurately.
3. Red Hot Chili Peppers
As mentionned before, blood sugar sex MagiK is a very neat funky album, where flea throws in excellent bass solos (sir psycho sexy and my lovely man are two good examples), but also shows how well he can cooperate with the guitar. The songs are very difficult, I haven't managed any of them yet correctly.
4. Funkadelic / P - Funk
That's right. If any music exhibits the beauty of the bass, it's funky music. Songs like dr funkenstein, red hot mama, cosmic slop, and so on have very strong bass lines, and they're hard to play. In the same category maybe try out James Brown, as his bassist was Bootsy Collins.
These records/artists are a good place to start towards more innovative play. I hope you have fun!
Cheers

Primus stuff is almost all bass Rush is good for bas too. Nirvana has a lot of bass riffs. Any funk has good bass too.
Les Claypool, who was bassist for Primus is still keeping busy. He also played in Oysterhead and He currently has a band called Les Claypool's Frog Brigade. I just got their new(ish/est) CD called purple onion. There are some samples at Lesclaypool.com. It's bass heavy too.
By the way, Primus sucks. Don't forget it. Buy a CD and see for yourself.
One of my favorites is Bouree by Jethro Tull from their album "Stand Up" (1969). The bass solo blew me away because it was one of the first that I heard chords being used by a bassist. Check it out....

personally, i think that the bassist in the red hot chili peppers (flea) is the best. "by the way" has an easy solo to learn. but it is really cool. 8)
yeah, thats how i got my username ;)
I thought I might as well say other things since everyone else had covered the chilis, but I guess I recommend one song...... "around the world", it's up and down the neck but if you practice you'll get the hang of it.
