I know I'm going to get chewed out here because it's not nice to ask for “how does this song go” or tabs. There is a groovy song called “Use Me” by Bill Whithers covered by a local band here “Howard and the White Boys.” It has such authoritative bass lines that make the song great. Makes you want to wiggle your hips. Anyway, even though I only play guitar now, does anyone out there play it? Could you share you tab of some of the stuff you do on that song? If not, I understand.

Click on the link and listen to song #12. You'll remember it.

Dennis - are you referring to the main riff, which is played by a low synth in that cut? Or do you mean the deep bass line?

Well, unfortunately I listen to the Howard & the White Boys' version and they only have two guitars, bass, and drums. One guitarist does some “chugging” while the lead guy does the melody.

I suppose I'd end up playing the low synth. Heck, I'll take anything at all. Bass part, low synth, anything would be great. I saw a guy play the bass on the song in a basement about a month ago and I think he stayed in a box. Something like D, E, G, A, some C's and F's. Oh, I'm not helping here at all…

Also, what key do you play it in? I printed a version that has E7, A7, and Am7.

Er, umm, I don't know it, but I was going to try and figure it out. Can you post/link the words and chords? I've found the lyrics everywhere, but not the music.

That's cool you've offered to help! Surprised you never heard that song. I'm not looking for total parts but rather some riffs/sounds that would make others think "oh yea, that's use me" when I'm playing. I've searched the net and have only these links useful. If you want I'd be happy to send you a CD with the song on it so you can at least hear it. Just PM me with your address.

This one looks pretty cool:

This one shows the main riff containing the notes E, G, and a weird C# on the 9th fret (can't figure out how that fits). But it only shows the riff:

No words, just description of what this guy thinks the rhythm should be. I highly doubt his E7#9 suggestion but I have terrible ears.

This is by a different artist and the chords look very different:

Surprised you never heard that song.

I wasn't clear - I've heard it, but I've never played it. It's like Funk 49, where people think the riff is played by the bass player, but it's really the guitar or keyboard playing low.

Can you rip an MP3 an email me?

Otherwise, I'll give you my mailing address.
